Redline question

I have a 93 Civic EX and as of right now my tach is broken because of the new gauges. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the redline is in the gears. I have had first gear almost to 30mph and i'm not sure if that is redline. I have a new cluster to fix the problem but i'm lazy and have no time. If anyone could tell me please let me know, Thanx.

i think you should just listen to the engine.

I do, but i dont feel like hitting the rev-limiter. Oh yeah, my question was what mph is the redline at. The redline is 7200. I know that third gear is redline at 80mph, but i'm not sure for first or second.

you shouldnt need a tach if you are an everyday driver. you can tell by the sound of the engine when you need to shift.

i had a truck with no tach, and never hit the rev-limiter...

I would restrict myself from hitting redline and just shift early without a tach. Say at about 20,30,40 and 50 MPH...don't want to end up blowing the motor.

For everyday driving I shift at 15, 30, 45, 60.

Usually i would shift about like Vtec95Civic, but when i'm "messing around" i would like to know when to shift before i do blow my motor.

My advice to you, don't "mess around" without your tach in. You really don't want to risk over revving your motor and throwing a rod or your piston slapping a valve.

Generally when I want to drive a little fast I don't ever glance at my speedo just my tach to see where my rpm is at. That's just me though.

You don't really need a tach.. usually I just listen to the engine, hardly use my gauges.

Here is the thing though, if you don't know what rpm you are at, then how do you know when the engine has enough. Sure you can go until the engine stutters, rev limiter kicks in, etc but sometimes that might be too late. I like to know, and not guess at something that costs a few grand. I guess when I water the grass, I don't need a meter or guage to tell me to water less. An engine is a little different.

I do look at it when getting on it hard.
