Rear speakers

Hi,
I recently bought a 2001 318 (dream to drive by the way) and I'm tempted to put some larger speakers in the rear. A couple questions.

Does anyone know if 6x9's will fit in the standard speaker setting? Also, will I need to get an amp or will the head unit be able to handle two 6x9s?
