Hello to all, I have a '96 blazer S10, automatic, 4W,6-cy, 101,000m that I bought used. It all started with the SES light going on every so often and when it did my tranny seemed to thump from 1st to 2nd. Also, it never rode quite as strong during. Then it would shut off and everything would be fine. Well, I use to bring it to a shop and they told me that it was probably the light fuse and they said the tranny and everything was fine. So, one day driving on the highway it would not go faster than 40mph. Now the car only goes up to 40 mph on drive and 2nd gear and it goes on reverse fine. My long question is that now I've been told that I need a rebuilt tranny,(been quoted from $1300 to $2000), is there anything that I should be checking or trying before I go ahead and get a rebuilt?? I appreciate any advice.
Thank You.
Thank You.

Go to autozone and get the codes read for free.
Do NOT replace the tranny or ANYTHING before you get the error codes from your computer.

Please come back with the EXACT codes.
Well, here it goes:
PO122, Throttle position sensor
P1406, Auxilary Ignition Control
P1870, Transmission Malfunction Control
So, I guess that means I have more than transmission problems???
Any advice would be appreciated since I have to confirm an appointment for a tranny job tomorrow.
Thanks again, Maria

I just have the car 7 months and have put on 35,000 miles. Never serviced the tranni filter or fluid. I have checked it though to make sure it was not low. On my behalf, I always check my oil....

This is a rather multifaceted problem, the codes really don't point to one general area to look at.
P0122: TPS is bad and needs to be changed.
P1406: EGR valve position circuit fault
DTC P1870 Transmission Component Slipping
For one, I would check to see if all the connections going to the computer are clean and firmly inserted.
Clean and inspect the EGR valve.
TPS needs to be chnaged.
Also, time for a transmission service with a full flush, fill and filter change.

I would hold off on a transmission rebuild just yet...
A low input TPS code (P0122) will set off an intermittent SES light. This will inhibit TCC lock-up on the transmission, which will give you the P1870 code, excessive component slipping - the TCC. The computer will then, by default, set maximum line pressure for the transmission, which will most likely give you the hard 1-2 shift. The P1870 will also inhibit fourth gear from applying.
Yup, check connections, at computer and at the TPS. If you know how to check the TPS with a voltmeter, that would be a good idea, but it most likely needs to be replaced. Clear codes, take it for a spin and see what happens. Tranny flush is a good idea, fluid and filter.

Sorry I don't know much about cars, what is the TCC? Also, how do I clear the codes? I already postponed the tranny appointment. Tomorrow II'm taking it in to get the tranny flushed, new TPS and hopefully they know how to clear the codes. Sound good??? I really appreciate everyone's help. I'm off to Foxwoods casino to see if I could win enough for a tranny.......Just in case. Thanks for everything, Maria

Also the ign switch sends power to the trany and if its voltage is low it will also set these codes

TCC is the torque converter clutch, this is where the power of the engine gets transfered to the transmission, both through a fluid coupling and a mechanical lock-up. I don't really know what else to say about it. Its the thing that is in front of the transmission, and it is connected to the flywheel of the engine. If you are taking it to a competent shop that is going to change the TPS and do a fluid change, they should know to clear the codes with their diagnostic equipment that they have. Hopefully that will solve your problem. How long were you driving it with the SES light on?

that thingy in the front of the trans is called a tork convertor. The TCC solonode would be the part you are thinking of and it is used to lock to tork convertor to the crankshaft and give a 1 to 1 ratio. 1 turn of crank to 1 turn of tork converter. When they go bad it gives the feeling of a high road speed miss or when stoping it will stall the engine out

No I am talking about the torque converter clutch that is in the torque converter. The torque convertor gives you a 1:1 ratio when the clutch engages in lock-up, which is controlled by the computer, which yes, you can say is switched on once the TCC solonoid is energized by the computer. The torque converter operates like a normal converter when the torque convertor clutch is not applied.
The high speed miss and stalling happens when the torque convertor clutch does not disenage for whatever reason(like a TCC solonoid you mentioned). I am saying the opposite, it is not being engaged, its not being commanded to be engaged by the computer becuse there is a problem(like the TPS code) Sorry if I didn't make myself clear when I was explaining it.
