Lsd or limited slip differentals are the best for road racing. See posi or locker is good for drag racing but not for autox. for example if ur were entering a right hand coner a lsd would disingarge the out side tire(stopsending power to it) and would allow that tire to rotate faster though the coner. now with a posi or locker when u entered that coner the outer and inner tire both are forced to rotate and the same speed. the outer tire will start to "hop" bc it physcal has to move faster bc of the longer distance. i tired to explain it the best i could but digrams help alot ill go look for somefor u.

A "Posi"=GM Posi-traction(GM coined term for LSD) and LSD are the same thing....

But you right an LSD is the best diff for road racing.

yes i already know why fully locked differentials aren't good for road racing and what lsd's do and all that. i was wondering if u guys could tell me a specific model of lsd or a company that makes them for mustangs.

The 6-shooters do not come with LSD(I don't think even the newer ones) but the GT/V8's come wit Trac-Loc ford term for LSD. You could bolt a 8.8 rear-end from a 99+GT put it in or I believe you can take the 8.8 Trac-loc out and out and put it in your 7.5" rear. The trac-loc has proven to be an excellent LSD to use for some auto-xing.

Other LSD options would be an Eaton or an Auburn, or any clutch type LSD. Stay away from mechanical locking LSD's like powertrax.

I would suggest the AUburn Pro-Series LIMITED-SLIP DIFFERENTIAL, and the model in perticular is the PN 542048 for the Ford 7.5" 10 Bolt Ring & Pinion sets. That will work perfectly in your car. They have one that is slightly more aggessive which is the High-Performance series. PN 542023.

Ford Racing also has their traction-loc, the part number is M4204C75. It's about $160 give or take $20.

The difference, the Ford uses clutch disk to lock the axles shafts together. The auburn uses gears and cones to lock the gears togeth. The clutches do wear out over time, but are much more quiet than the auburn. You can add a extra clutch disk to the Ford Trac-loc. I do that when I wantted a little more lock and little less slip. Eventually, I replaced it with a auburn.

For the normal driver, the PowerTrax might be way too aggressive. If your a 1/4mile fiend, the powertrax is for you. I like it myself, but I have seen mixed results from them. Half the cars tend to have excessive clicking, the other half are pretty quiet.

.

The 8.8 inch from a GT bolts right up to the V6, But the internal differentials are not interchangeable. You can thou..... swap the axle shafts, those are the same.

I like the Powertrax for street cars and have driven many with it. I like it a lot and find the clicking only excessive when turning in a parking lot or at slow speeds. But he specifically asked about one for road racing and the powertrax is a big no no diff for auto-x/road racing.

Like I said if your a 1/4mile fiend.... it's perfect:)
