Just picked up a 1989 Honda Accord DX 2.0L (carb) automatic. The car runs fine with the trans. in park or neutral (revs up good and seems to run great) but has no power what so ever in drive. Barely climbs a hill and is totally gutless (no noticeable smoke either). So I checked the all the fluids and filters as well as the following items: 1. Cylinder Compression (checks ok 135-145 all cylinders) 2. Cleaned and gapped plugs (they look new) 3. Dist. cap (cleaned & inspected....looks ok) 3. spark plug wires appear brand new. 4. PCV valve appears to be working ok (clicks) 5. egr valve appears to be ok (diaphram functions) 5. and last but not least the cat. converter (disconnected the exhaust upstream with no improvement to driveability). Now I'm officially stumped and out of ideas....need help!!!!

Hmmm...possibly something with the drivetrain or tranny? I mean, it seems like the car runs great, perhaps it is just a matter of getting the power to the wheels...does it shift well normally?

Wish I had more specific advice, but that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Auto trans seems ok....shifts fine anyway and full of fluid. Car was given to me and previous owner said that this condition started suddenly. He said he stopped at the store one day, came out 10 minutes later and it wouldn't start. He returned later and it started but has had no power under load since. He is not mechanically inclined and didn't want to put any more $$$ into the car.
