Ok, which do you think will – in the end – produce more horse power with these accessories applied? I need an honest tuner's opinion.

ok so how much psi and what about fmu? cant have the bigger turbo and more air w/o supporting mods, and fmu, you can boost 18psi on the sr and boost 8psi on the rb and the sr will make more cause of more psi, but with those mods you wont see that much difference b/c it lacks tunning, i say 70whp max from those mods..

given that you never mentioned fuel, then i would say the RB will have more hp becuse it has 6 of those 370cc injectors which will support waaay more hp then 4 of those 370's from a SR.

if fuel is included, then the RB will still make more power, there is no replacement for displacement. plus it will have a broader and smoother powerbnad compared to the SR.

Nova3465
01-26-2005, 01:43 AM
ok, well then lets do this. I always hear of people talking about getting a SR into the 600-700hp range fairly easy. which would make since because theres so many more aftermarket parts out there for them. As far as ease and money, which would get me to the 600-700hp range the easiest and cheapest? SR or RB, and how

nissanfanatic

I say I wanna see what psi you are running, what fuel system you are going to be running, and what the flow ratings is on those turbos.

ok, well then lets do this. I always hear of people talking about getting a SR into the 600-700hp range fairly easy

Yea right. That takes a lot of work and even more money. Don't count on it driving very well either.

turbo2nr
01-26-2005, 01:23 PM
haha 600-700hp range yea right, you better have deep pockets, common to get any proudction car into 700hp range is very very very hard its more then adding a turbo and making crazy boost, 700hp on a 4clyd is very very very hard, almost impossible, and as nissanfantic said daily dirver, kiss that idea goodbuy,

as for you answer if you are going for 600-700hp rb25det all the way, like tat said no replacement for displacement.. i say go for 400hp, its a hand full, not to sound offensive but have you ever driven a 400hp car, its a handfull, shit my can only has about 180whp and its fun..

well good luck

This is a stupid thread. What do you think produce more hp in Japan, Skylines or Silvias. Both are going to be hard to get that much power out of because of the lack of parts and tuners available in the U.S. Your power #'s are too dreamy. Think more realistic. In the U.S. there is a bigger market for the SR so it will be easier to get the power because parts are more available then the RB. And there is nothing wrong with the KA either. You can get gobs of power out of it too. For those power #'s you would need to build the motor from the ground up, changing bottom end and top end, basically a full race built motor. Any motor can produce those #'s if built from the ground up so you should stay with the KA. You should also feel what a 300whp silvia feels like. With how you talk, you would probably shit your pants in that.

Doesnt the KA make more Horsepower in the end then a SR? Thats what i have been lead to believe...ummm 600-700 HP easy? you made 600-700HP sound like it was changing spark plugs? well thats kind of really easy but anyways...600-700 WOULD BE LIKE THE MAX FOR THE SR20! I mean if you have the money go with the RB25, Is there really a competition there?

Nova3465
01-26-2005, 04:52 PM
ok, someone of you think that i am comletetly stupid. I know that obviously a 2.5l 6 cylinder is going to naturally make more power then a 2.9L 4 cylinder. I have done research. I know that 600-700hp is ALOT and is EASY. but there has been alot of talk about it being EASIER as far as the vast amount of parts there are for the SR as compared to the RB. Money is not an object for me right now. well it is to a certain degree so dont say buy a ferrari or some shit. i want the most hp i can get without spending $20,000 on just the engine. The KA doesnt have hardly any parts available in america or not near as much as the SR. i just wanted an opinion on what the best road to take would be. so i dont need to get slammed by fuck off like some of you have been.

The KA doesnt have hardly any parts available in america or not near as much as the SR.

1)I sure hope that was a typo
2)Same as number one, because that much HP sure as hell isnt easy on a 4cyl.
3)How is it not an object? win the lottery? help us out then!

Well for that matter, any of the three motors will do. Get the block sleeved, low compression pistons, good connecting rods, ported and polished head, whole new valvetrain with turbo cam shafts from any manufacturer that offers a high performance cam, intake manifold, large piping for everything, turbo kit with big turbo, 3-puck racing clutch, standalone fuel management (AEM), all new high flow fuel delivery, new radiator and fans (high performance), and a lot of boost. Now you're set to go. Make sure to find a great tuner otherwise, BOOOOM. Have fun. This is all the help you will get. DO RESEARCH!!!

thanks, but 1/2 that stuff i already had listed. Ok well you guys have helped out alot thanks.

and p.s. "Hit_N_Run-player", look up one post. I said it was a typo. and if you have sites that have high performance KA parts then private message them to me cause i'd appreciate it.

i type fast and dont usually pay attention. we all know that the SR is 2.0L (the 0 is next to the 9 so typos happen) so obviously i didnt mean 2.9L

S13wanabe

For KA performance go to www.boostdesigns.com or www.phatka-t.com. They both specialize in turboing KA's.

nissanfanatic
01-26-2005, 06:08 PM
You should watch the Ultimate KA-T video. It'll change your mind about the KA. 400whp in a 240 will smoke anything you see on the street. It usually yields 11 second 1320 times with traction. And you will see that traction is a problem at 400whp. And both the KA and SR are capable of that. If you go SR, you just pay $2500(assuming you install yourself) for a built engine capable of 400whp. $2500 will get you pistons, machined, and well on your way to layin down some numbers. If you go low boost at first, you could have a setup with that $2500. Add another $1500 and you could definately look at getting above 300whp. The plus side to the SR is that the ECU is already programmed for FI fuel and timing maps. You'll learn that the KA ecu is a tricky mofo. If you want to get out the easy way and pay a little more, go with a Jim Wolf Technology ECU. It is pretty safe for the most part and doesn't require tuning unless you want to pull some fuel out for a few extra HP. But anywho, don't skimp on the fuel system whatever you do. Good luck.

turbo2nr
01-26-2005, 06:37 PM
i agree with nissanfanitic, give the ka motor a world, they are great possibilities out there, they are strong motor, the one upside the sr has over the ka the sr was designed to be a turbo motor so it has supporting mods the ka hasnt, but if you mod a ka to run efficently with a turbo you will make more hp at less boost then on a sr mainly b/c of more liters.. but still both are good motors and both are strong, for drag tho ka all the way..

11 seconds is fast.....but it wont smoke anything out on the road. Yes it will smoke most cars, but you will find your match.....well atleast around here you will.

S13wanabe
01-26-2005, 07:13 PM
I personally don't know of very many 11 second cars that are driven everyday. 11's are insanely fast. What cars are driving around your neighborhood. I would like to see these 11 second cars all over the place. I would giz myself.

TatII
01-26-2005, 07:21 PM
ha running 11's will get you kicked off the track without a roll cage, so unless you see cars with roll cages driving around your neighborhood, you can't be sure of their their time.

also 11's is pretty damn fast, i mean anything that can beat a ferrari or a viper means business and earns major bragging rights esp if its coming from a 4 banger.

heres the link to the utlimate ka-t video

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=348188

read the whole thread after you watch the video. the average whp rating for all the cars in that thread are 400whp, and 2 of them are in the 500whp range.

Nova3465
01-26-2005, 07:53 PM
wow, i heard that there are amazing possabilities for the KA i just never considered it b/c of lack of aftermarket parts. i live in a town of 20,000 in oklahoma so the ONLY place you see an 11 second car is on the track. my friend's dad has an '02 Z06. but im not sure if its an 11 sec car. Are those 400whp KA's daily drivers? could they be made to be daily drivers if they arn't?

Nova3465
01-26-2005, 07:56 PM
is everything on Boostdesign.com for the KA?

nissanfanatic
01-26-2005, 07:58 PM
Klattr1's 240 is daily driven IIRC. 11 seconds is insanely fast. Thats why I said the KA or the SR will do the trick.

hahahahaha Tat. You can just take it to the track and hope your first run is the best because it is going to be your last run. Don't forget a helmet. Roll cage rules have been moved to 11.49 IIRC. I'll have to check my NHRA rulebook.

Nova3465
01-26-2005, 08:07 PM
So which do you think would be:
(1)The cheapest
(2)The easiest
To get into the 400whp range. now realize that i will still have to find a KA24DE because mine is SOHC. So either way i have to buy and engine.

Hit_N_Run-player
01-26-2005, 08:47 PM
are you still thinking that there arent KA parts after seeing all those nice turbo'ed KA's? I was gonna list sites both, but were already said, and i didnt see the post above mine because it took me like 10min to make my post, with editing the qoutes (i am ok with computers, can do some stuff, just takes a while.LOL.)

01-26-2005, 08:51 PM
lol, last time I went to the track is was street car night and anyone could go, there was a Topaz,....lol....anyways, there weren't any rules, you didn't even need a helmet, they couldn'T measure times anyways, they had no equipment, and they didn't have even matches, they had a like 700whp Nova SS vs a stock civic...guess who won?

well since you have a single cam KA, i would say ditch the whole KA idea and just go for the SR.

Nova3465
01-26-2005, 10:38 PM
well i'd be cheaper to get a DOHC from a junkyard and rebuild it then it would to get an sr shipped and intalled. I would think but maybe not, i just want some one to answer me wether the SR or the KA-T would be easier/cheaper to get up to 400whp.

logik23
01-26-2005, 10:56 PM
KA-T is better for brute power, it's cliche, but there's no replacement for displacement, I say go KA-T, it'll cost you the same or a little more for a DOHC KA-T, but it'll give you more raw power.

nissanfanatic
01-26-2005, 11:59 PM
The SOHC did have lower compression. Check some of the other forums. There are a few SOHC guys. One of them has like 273,000 miles on his SOHC KA-T. Both the SR and the KA-T are going to be cheaper to get to 400whp than the RB. I don't even know the going rate for an RB these days or where to get one. I think you should concentrate on getting a humble little 5psi setup with a FMU and a degree or two knocked off the timing. You'll be happy for a while, trust me. Then go from there.

The 2002 Corvette ZO6 runs 12.6 in the 1/4 mile stock. Some guys get better times with good driving. If you have to get a motor anyway, I would say get the SR. As long as you can smog that motor and there is not much of a hastle, I would do that. You can pick up a KA for about $700 whereas the SR will be about $2200 without instalation but you also get a trannie. The SR is already set up for a turbo so you basically upgrade the kit and tune and boom 300whp. I like the KA but mostly because it would mean I wouldn't have to change my motor. The SR is my favorite motor for the 240SX though.

ka all the way, the boost desigens stage 2 is good and all but i could possibly out a bettet fmu kit then boost designs for less then 1000, just rember after all that fuel stuff u still need some sort for fmu, id go with a jim wolf desinged for the injectors and your mods, of you can get a AEM ems, thats also great, and also you need to advance the timing for all the boost you add, i think its something alongs the line of 1.3degrees for every psi added.. as for compression i say a low comp head gasket will due for now, greedy maks some good 3mm head gaskets..

me id personaly like a mid 11sec daily driven street car, that my goal but low 13s to hi 12's is plenty quick..

nah at best i could do is to keep up, most of the guys drive modded LS1's, and others have big block v8's. i feel that unless i run atleast mid 12's, i should've even try to race those guys.

theres a dick that drives a cuda with a 383 in it i think, and he runs a 12.0 however his trap speed is only in the 110's. so he have no top end. if i was to race him after making 300+whp i would shit on him from top end run cause i'll be trapping over 120mph with around 360-380whp.

i'm probrably like in the top 10 fastest for the imports in my school, however my school is filled with super charged cobra's, internally worked 5.0's, tons of LS1's and old school muscle cars.

we also got a vr-4, rx-7 TT, Z32 TT, turbo teg ( my friends ), another 11 sec vr-4, 400whp supra TT, stock automatic supra TT, worked SRT-4's, like 2 modded DSM's ( with my friends teg took out ), R32 volkswagen's, 04 S2000's, and 350Z's

those are all the quick/fast imports i can name off the top of my head, in my school, some i can beat, some i can hang with, some will just straight out smoke me.

remember i do go to a automotive school. i probrably have one of the quickest 4 bangers.

however for the v8 guys who do know my car, they give it respect, and like it alot, however thats only like 5% of them, the rest are dicks.

Around here, rednecks just throw old ass V8s in thier shit can trucks and other nameless rust buckets.

Trapping at 120+ kinda makes me wonder what would happen if you could get it to hook up. My dads camaro traps at like 126mph but runs a 10.80. Then again its spooled and tubbed with 13" slicks and a narrowed Ford 9" so traction is no problem. I've drove it and will tell you a turbocharged car feels soo much cooler than a NA.

I only know one guy around here that likes V8s but also give me a lot of respect. And he's the only other person around here that knows what Air/Fuel ratios are, what a wideband O2 sensor is, knows what speed density is, knows what open and closed loop are, and understands the importance of tuning.

i don't know what you're ^ talking about but yeah top feed injectors flow slightly better and all you have to do is buy a top feed fuel rail.. injectors will be the same.. you can get 'em on ebay for $100.. they also look "cooler" in your engine bay apparently.. to me it doesn't make a difference.. it doesn't matter till you're pushing more than 350 dynoed whp.. and for injector size, i'd say go atleast 50ccs over what your goal is just so you don't max them out.. sr20det 370cc injectors are popular cause they fit right in the ka.. and they go pretty cheap too
