I have a '96 Metro Lsi 1.3 w/auto transmission that is in great shape and I know where I can pick up a '93 Metro with a bad engine but a good 5 speed tranny. Will the 5 spd bolt up to the 1.3 in my '96 without any problems and will I run into any unusual problems transferring the other stuff (pedals, clutch, etc.) from the '93 to the '96? I am not a professional mechanic but am mechanically inclined and have had engines & transmissions out of other vehicles in the past and managed to get them running again. Let me also say that I love Metro's and the '96 is my 6th one since buying my first one in '90. Thanks for any info or advice.

the tranny will bolt up but you will need pedals out of the newer body style and will have to do some firewall drilling to run clutch cable and some other minor adapting. think you will also need the tranny mounts off the newer type tranny

Pedals may not bolt in. You'll also need the shift linkage and shifter from a 95+ 1.3 metro/swift. Motor mounts are completely different. You'll need to fabricate a mount in the drivers side of the engine bay to mount the manual trans(bolts to a different place on the frame). There's a sensor on the trans that tells the ECU that it's in park, and will allow the car to start. That will have to be bypassed. The reverse light switch will also have a different plug. IMHO, it's not worth the trouble. It's a real pain.

Thanks for the info, guys. Guess I'll sell the auto '96  and look for a good manual pre '95. I want good gas milage and can only manage 30 to 33 w/the auto. I remember my first '90 stick got around 50 highway.
