My g/f told me that some lady at her job said that she got an email that said that now theives instead of breaking into your car they call the Dealer and say "they lost their key" and then they give them the VIN # and then the dealer give them a key. That lady said she called and said she lost her key and they asked for her VIN #.Is this true or BS?

they need to give the dealerr more then just the vin number to get a key. if you're worried about it just cover the vin on your dash with a piece of electrical tape.

i accidently locked my keys in my car with it running last year. I had to work so my parents called mitsu...not sure what all they had to give them but they went and picked up a set of keys 30 minutes later.

To get a set of keys made from the dealer you have to have the vin # and you also have to show proof of ownership. If a dealer gives a set of keys to someone and they dont ask for proof of ownership they could have the shyt sued out of them.

About a year ago, the only key I had for my Firebird broke in half and its one of those stupid ones with a computer chip in it. All I had to do was call the dealership and give em the VIN number and the next day for 60 bucks I had a new key.
