Porting Upper Intake Manifold.

Hey guys,

I'm going to be getting a 62 mm TB for my 3.4 Liter 2001 Grand Am. When I buy it, I am going to need to port match the upper intake manifold to keep the airflow smooth. I don't have any die grinder or port&polish kits or anything like that. All I have is an electric drill. Does anybody know of any kits or anything that will be compatible with that and let me get the job done? I think the intake manifold is made out of aluminum, not exactly sure. Give me any suggestions. Thanks.

I think your best bet would be to get a dremel and flap wheels. A dremel is only like $35, the bits are around $5 apiece. A drill won't do a very good job.

a dremel will take forever. i would look into getting a die grinder with a few different bits. saved me about 6 hours of time.

If you know what bits to use a dremel will make quick work out of it. The upper intake is probably aluminum.. Any bit that says "metal" for the dremel will chew through aluminum. Probably too fast if you're not experienced... you'd make a mess out of it. Flap wheels are the probably the safest bet. Sandpaper cartridge rolls work well and don't cut too fast as well, but I've never seen a mandrel for them for a dremel. You could rent an air compressor and die grinder. I've considered turning one of the 1/4" ones down to 1/8" so I can use it in my dremel, but never got around to doin it.
I could cut an aluminum intake in half with a dremel in 6 hours...
Dremel and die grinders are pretty much the same thing.. high speed rotary tools. The bits vary slightly, mainly the dremel's are smaller, but you can accomplish most tasks with either.

Find a friend with an air compressor and a die grinder.
And bring him beer for "renting" his equipment.
