Image Dynamics ID Max V.3 Subs - Hifonics Amps

I have been looking into getting news subs and a new amp eventually. My friend who's into audio somewhat recommended Image Dyanmics Subs and Hifonics amps (espeically good for the price I was told). Evenwhere I searched, I consistantly saw Image Dynamics subs recommended. I did some looking and seemed to settle on the 12" DVC Image Dynamics ID Max V.3 as my subs of choice from them. I have been told they put out very good SQ & SPL. This is important to me because although a nice SPL is of some concern, unlike some people I've come across who only care about SPL, I will not trade SQ off for the sole purpose of SPL. I may want some SPL, but I want good SQ from these subs, and SQ is important to me. From what I gather the ID MAX V.3 will give me just that...a good mix of both SQ and SPL.

I am wondering if anyone has any opinions on these subs? I did some searching and found many people recommending Image Dynamics, but no one ever seems to actually voice an opinion about their various subs. It's always just "check out Image Dynamics." Well, as I said, I checked them out and settled on the ID Max V.3 (12" 1000watts RMS, DVC, avaiable in both 2ohm and 4ohm loads). I am wanting to run 2 12" DVC Image Dynamics V.3's (havn't decided on DVC 2 or DVC 4 ohm load yet).

Also, my buddy told me to check out Hifonics amps. He said they are pretty good amps, especially for the money...and that they would run the subs without breaking the bank. I am wondering if anyone has any opinions on Hifonics amps. I know they have a Brutus 1000watt rms @ 1ohm stable amp, and it seems the DVC ID Max V.3 could be bridged down to 1 ohm. I'm not against buying 2 amps like this if need be to run 2 12's, although a buying 1 higher powered amp that will run both would be nice took. I don't remember Hifonics amps above the one mentioned power wise, but if they are their I will certainly look into them as long as this brand isn't bad. Does anyone have any experince, opinions, or suggestions in regards to Hifonics? Decent? Good? Bad-stay away from them? I know from what I found, the price seems to be good. If you all recommend staying away from Hifonics, who do you suggest instead? Any thoughts, opinions or suggestions are appreicated.

IDMAX are great subs, hifonicsare great amps for the price.
Image Dynamics is on the level of Adire aduio, REaudio, Higher end JL, Crystal Audio, etc...

yeah ive heard that idmax subs have some of the best SQ out.. and will get loud.. so youre right theyre prolly exactly what you want.

you could get a bx1500d.. ive heard that idmaxs only need about 750 a piece to reach full potential.. you can get one for probably $275..

also, if you think you would rather not short-change power at all, go with the bx1800d.. im sure this will be plenty. and i think either amp will probably be cheaper than stacking two bx1000ds..

as far as hifonics in general.. ive heard generally good things. of course theres much better but you get what you pay for and the hifonics amps are great for what you pay.. most people get the performance they expect and never have mechanical problems.. i might buy one soon actually

hifonics amps are overrated....... go with a pair of DUAL 4 OHM subs and a bx1800d. Then seal them (since your goal is SQ) And aim for a qtc of .707(better low end sacrificed loudness) up to .8ish (slightly louder, better midbass transition, loose SOME low end)

ok ok i'll be myself. lol.

I have the 12" Image Dynamics IDQ and the idmax v3. As far as sound quality, the idmaxs are some of the better subwoofers out there. Compared to my 10w7s i had before, the low end of the w7s were a bit better, but the w7 had that thick bass type of sound. Kind of overexaggerating i guess, but then again, the w7s were in a ported box and i didn't have an EQ that time.

The low end on the idmax is pretty good. I had the idmax in a 2.2 cubic feet box tuned to 28hz and it was minimal at best. Then again, it still might be too much for some, but my friend's 12" RE XXX completely diminished my idmax as far as distortion and low end. On the top end near the midbass frequency, the IDmax outdoes the brahma. the idmax sounded like it could take the upper bass frequencies better than the re xxx. IMO, the idmax blends in with the midbass better than the RE XXX.

If i had to do it all over again, give me the RE xxx. Might weigh almost twice of that idmax, and cost more, but it sounds awesome and i think its worth it.

the idmax needs less power than the RE xxx to achieve the same volume (within limits). my idmax needed VERY little power. with about 170w, i was pushing the sub about half excursion. Now in an IB install, the idmax can be fully utilize with only about 400w. In a small sealed box, you'll want more power though.

the idmax is a great sub and not many sub are up to par. W7 vs idmax, the idmax stays in my car. :)

ID maxes are known for their midbass transitions....but XXX's (even the 18) still blend pretty damn good up near the crossover point....I think u can get idmaxes a lot cheaper then xxx's and brahma's tho...... another thing to check out would be Ascendant's Avalanche 15.....It would need about 800 watts enclosure dependant....but they're only 300 bucks and the reviews commin back on these things are GREAT..... haven't heard one yet but I will soon.

Thank you all for responding. Sorry it took SOOO long to respond to this.I've been very busy and my computer acted up so I didn't havn't really been able to have much time to access the net and respond.

Anyways, thatnks for mentioning that Hifonics has bigger amps than the 1000...the 1800 or 2200 seem more up the alley for the ID max V.3's. I suppose the 1800 would be 200 whats under max RMS, which I am guess is better than having it be rated @ 200 watts over like the 2200.

Anyways, I'll definatly look into other subs people mentioned as well before I buy, but it's nice to know that you all think the ID Max V.3's are right up the alley in terms of what I am looking for and what is important to me. I figured Hifonics wasn' the best brand, but for the price I won't find anything else close to it power wise to run the ID Max's. I know the ID Max's seem like apretty decent price too. I didn't look around much but the W7's was a bunch more. I'll look into the Ascendant's Avalanche 15 and the RE XX as well. Any thoughts on these versus the ID Max V.3? I'll trust you that a 2 DVC 4ohm 12" V.3's and a bx1800d is the way to go. Since I am not anywhere near as knowledgeable in steros as sme of you, I have to ask...is there a certain respond to go with 2 12" V.3 4 ohm DVC subs versus 2 12" V.3 2 ohm DVC subs? Anyways...thats for the comments so far!!!

As said before, they're great subs! The Avalanche would probably be your best alternative if you decided NOT to go with the ID maxes...but i say go for it!

Well, I'm not sure when I'll end up buying it all. I want to make sure I have everything in order first, find a good price, etc. I'll have to build a box, does anyone happen to know the proper sealed enclose size per sub for the ID Max V.3's? Thanks.

with those hifonics amps youll need to wire your subs to a final load of one ohm to get the full power you want. the 2 dual 4s can be wired in parallel together down to one ohm. the dual 2s cant be wired to one ohm.

duh.....lol...... ummmm check their website they might show what you would need for boxes.... if not get winisd an plug in the specs.

AndonD454, thanks for explaining that. It makes a little more sense now why you all recommended the 2 12" DVC 4 ohm subs for me versus the 2ohm DVC ones.

bumpinstang77, I'll check their website for the box specs and if I can'[t findit maybe I'll give them a call about it. If that doesn't work, what exactly do you mean by "get winisd an plug in the specs?"

Thanks:)

winisd is a program that shows u how speakers react to diff boxes.....disregard the graph tho that's for in room response..... all you would be doing is finding out what size box yields the desired QTC

Hmm, intersting. Where can I get this program and how much does it cost?
