what's the difference between a knock-off body kit and a tru kit>????

and how can I tell the difference?

Difference between knockoff and authentic is that the authentic is made by the originator and the knockoff is a copy by another maker ... Knockoff's are usually cheaper ... Quality of the authentic kit is usually higher and usually fits better ...

Different kits will have different points where you should be able to tell if it is authentic or knockoff but you will need to know what to look at ... sometimes they will have a stamp of the maker but sometimes those can be copied too ...
