Fixing up Camaro. Please help.

I need quite a handful of things I need to get/fix/do to my Camaro since I just got it and had it checked out.

*Please* List off approx prices if you know for part and or installation.

1) Brake Rotors resurficed.
2) New Brake Pads.
3) Check Engine light doesn't come on.
4) Replace Rear Taillight Enclosures
5) Replace Fog Lights
6) One signal doesn't work
7) Seatbelts don't lock. (Hard to pull out but dont lock up when you yank on 'em)
8) Jack / Tools missing
9) Spare tire missing
10) A/C Needs refilling
11) Washer Fluid doesn't Shoot out
12) Coolant Flush
13) Replace left and Right Engine Mounts.
14) Replace Transmisition Mounts.
15) Replace High and Low Pressure Power Steering Hoses
16) Replace outer Tie Rods.
17) Replace Left Front Control Arm Bushings
18) Replace Front Shocks
19) Replace Lower Ball Joints (bushings)
20) Replace Stabalizer Bar Bushings

Thats about it. I feel the tranny bounce if i go over bad bumps so its pretty high priority. Can anyone give me some ideas where I can start hunting down these things (ebay etc) and how much I Should pay? :)

the only pointers i can give you are to try and fix the simple problems yourself. what model did you say your car is and what kind of mileage?

I thought mine had a lot of problems when I bought it. Mine has problems, they're just bigger problems than yours. I'm also without the jack and spare tire, apparently the previous owner had an amplifier back there, because it's all wired up, just no amp. I'm also needing a fog light, those are really expensive for what they are. I'm probably just going to replace mine with Hella FF75 (I think that's what they are), I've hear that they are better anway, and about the same size.

2) New Brake Pads....i think like 30 bucks at a local autoparts place

4) Replace Rear Taillight Enclosures...got mine for 15 each at a junkyard

9) Spare tire missing....10 bucks at the junkyard

10) A/C Needs refilling...think they were 20 for the self refill kit at autozone

11) Washer Fluid doesn't Shoot out...damn neither does mine.

14) Replace Transmisition Mount...energy suspension mount from autozone will only cost like 10-25

my transmission had a broken mont too it was a bitch because it kept bouncing and i thougth it was gonna break, i bought my energy suspension mount for 13 and it didnt fit because my crossmember was different apparently they didnt have any mounts for manual transmissions anywhere around here so i picked up a crossmember from an automatic maro for 4 bucks at the junk yard

1) Its a 1997 standard (no RS) V-6 5-speed with 79k miles.
2) I know its alot of small problems but alot.
3) How do you do self-filling AC stuff?

I'm pretty sure that they sell kits at autozone so that you can fill up the AC yourself. I think that they are pretty cheap too.

and for the self filling stuff, im not sure where it is on your car but i have a third get (89) and its a cilinder looking like thing on left side of the engine (looking at the car from the front end to the back) and it has about three metal tubes coming out and iit has i think 2 little caps that look like the falves to fill up your tires.... they sell a can that looks like the fix-a-flat stuff with Freeon and some special oil, it gives you directions on how to do it on the bottle but you just screw on the hose and it sprays it in, you can buy it in one bottle or separate ( oil and freeon)

Search junkyard and ebay first. May wanna try out poly mounts and bushings (more firm/strong, a little harsher ride but you gotta make a sacrifice for every inporvement right?)

sounds like somebody ran the shit out of that car for a long time. probably heavy on the gas and jumping over hills and the like. That's the only reason I can think of why the trans AND engine mounts would need to be replaced. Very worn brakes on sports cars are signs of a driver with a lead foot.

Be carefull with the A/C refill. there are different types. I was told that the type in my third gen isn't sold anymore, I needed to convert to the newer type of refrigerant. I didn't investigate it myself because it is no longer summer time... I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

1 and 2 would prolly be around 120-130 with new parts (doing the work yourself). ive never gotten rotors resurfaced so i dont know about that

advance auto and autozone sell the a/c recharge kits that just plug into the a/c line while its running.

the spare/spare tools, tail lights, and fog lights you should handle in a junkyard. otherwise you will be payin out the ass from gm.

the coolant flush you can do but better to get a power flush from a shop

13 down is where you will spend your money. do you need to replace the entire tie rods or just the ends? that cant be more the 200 bucks for both. the front shocks are prolly 120 for the stock ones or so.

these are all off-the-top-of-my-head numbers so dont quote me. just tryin to give a ball park...

The lights under the rear view mirror don't work AND don't light up when I open the door. Replace bulbs? Pray to electricity God? Fuse? :)

if you have a local high school with a brake lathe, they will sometimes do it for free just to show the class how its done properly etc.. or trade for a thing of oil ;) High schools is a cheap way of getting work done. brake pads should be liek $30 TOPS unless you go performance etc.. then your looking at more.

Yah thats the Campaing number for the Seatbelt issues. To get your recall fixed you take it ot a dealership and tell them you want the seat belt recall fixed, if they say there isnt one, then give them that campaing number

The mechanic quoted me for approx 450$ for L/R Engine mounts and tranny mounts bought and installed. (partsa nd labor all together)

No offense man, but if your paying someone $450 to install some mounts, your lazy as hell. The mounts are cheap and they aren't hard to install, they just take a little time sometimes. If youve got money to blow and dont want to work on your own car and learn more about your car then go ahead and spedn the money, but if u wanna save yourself cash and learn while your at it, goto a part store around you, pickup the mounts, rent a hoist if u need it, and go at it. Alot cheaper, Alot funner, Alot more educational.

Not enough time to do it, don't have the ability to rent a hoist etc. I can't take time off work to do it. Don't have money to blow but I need to get it done in a couple hours not a weekend type deal. :) I'm a busy boy. If I wasn't working 50+ hrs a week + college + gf (entire weekend) I'd most likely do it. Asides I'll be doing all the little things, the mounts is just a hair above me. Not lazy, time problems.

well like i said before the transmission mount only costs like 15 so just find 30 minutes to jack up your car, basically all you do is get another jack to hold the tranny in place while your under the car and just take off the transmission crossmember and replace the mount and put it back im telling you 30 minutes tops and it helps a lot because your tranny will be stable and you dont have to worry about it breaking or anything

Yah dude, the Tranny mount is easier then the engine mounts and you can still do all 3, cut out an hour of ur sleep on thursday, and another hour next tuesdayand you will have them done

Mechanic is only charging 60$ for tranny mounts and 80$ for engine mounts and then 280$ for labor

that price is horrible man parts are a little expensive and that labor is way to much

I don't know how many times I've thought about having the auto class at the school work on my car, since they do it at the college, the teacher is really good. He has a Porsche, and they are rebuilding it. I thought about signing up for the class myself, but I decided not to after I saw all of the guys that are in there. My cousin is in there, and I asked him how well they treat cars. He said he wouldn't take his Cavalier there, so I shouldn't take my Camaro there either.

I guess I'm just going to paying more, but I'd rather be sure that it's running well.

i had to replace a few things when i got my camaro like the altanator,battery,springs, shocks, lights,maf sensor,oh on the lights thing brand new if u go with what u got the fog lights go for almost 80 bucks thats if u get what they put on the car from the start, after market prices are much better and they will be brighter alot of guys are going that rout now and days i see the tail light the entire thing will run you 130 brand new, light bracket all that shit, thats the stock gm stuff but once again aftermarket u could get some nice or rice stuff whatever your tast pleases...um the windshield wash spray im not sure of i would try an fix that myself if possable, and if u got to replace brakes and rotors i would put something better than they had on it if u have the money for it i myself went with a brand call ebc some company from england i think but they are a bit pricy u can call around or use this wounderful thing we are on now the computor u can find anything u want on here for your car and as someone already stated e-bay is a good place to look also,but the ac can be recharged at any oil change spot jiffy lube places like that i think its like 49.99 and they do all your fluids, bulbs for your lights between 7-20 bucks depending on what lights u need and i think thats about all i can speak on myself but im sure everyone else has been down that road and could help u out.

Heh awesome, I've got a good start. I checked out my tails and they look fine. Going to check brake lights etc. I need the right turn signal not the fog light actually so its a junkyard hunt.

Also, I think I'll just do the tranny mounts only for now since it was 60$ for parts and installation. I dont like it bouncing around, then i'll get engine mounts done in a while.

Xbox, then your shop teacher should be fired. I'd bring my ride into our shop any day, and I have brought in my dads cars for work. The thing you need to do is tell him you only want you, the shop teacher, and maybe your best bud to work on it, and thats it, and if something gets broken or damaged because of someone else in the class, you WILL send the bill to them. Thats the easiest way to make sure nothing happens. I wouldn't bring your car in and leave it there while your not there or the teacher isn't there either, the only time I left my car unattended there was when we went for lunch, it was on the hoist and he locked the doors so no one could touch it.
