Car won't drive!!!

My Jetta died on me on Christmas morning. I think the clutch is burned out because the shifter won't give me any resistance and all the car will do is idle slowly forward, like it's stuck between first and neutral. If it is the clutch, how much would that cost me to fix?

I assume it is a 5 speed. Does your clutch give resistance? Or does it just stick to the floor? Can you even get into 1st gear?

yes it's a five speed. the shifter just wobbles around while giving no resistance. It feels as though it's stuck somewhere between first and neutral. It drives as if I had the clutch halfway down in first gear. also it idles really low, making some weird rumbling noises, as if it is about to stall.

Well i had a similar prob. my clutch was stuck to the floor with no resistance. It ended up being the throttle bearing. Cheap part; expensive fix. Um if you need to get somewhere, start the car in first gear and give it a little gas. then shift without the clutch. Not that hard. sorry if no help

If the shifter moves with no resistance there is probably something wrong with either the shift linkage or inside the transmission. See if you can get the car up so you can see the shift linkage and have someone move the shifter so you can observe any looseness in the linkage.
