its old cuz it happened a few weeks ago. Like 2 weeks ago. I've just had problems getting near a computer/ too lazy to post it.
Anyway, allow me to give a bit of background, i have a 1987 Mazda rx-7 base model that i bought last year at the end of july. For stupid reasons (most having to do with registration of the car) i wasnt able to drive it until january of this year.
This race marks my first. After about a week of driving my car i taught myself to drive stick (sad i know). So i was at the local spot and i met up with some friends from my high school (not that i knew them, they just happened to go there). So we chill for a bit and then the kid with the MR2 (this is a 02 or 03 spyder, has cold air intake forgot), had to leave (he's a high school kid) so we go to the high way to fuck around a bit.
Its me in my 7, him and his friend in the MR2 and another kid and my best friend in a supercharged gmc truck (the little suv).
Me and the mr2 line up (we go from a stop).
I'm in neutral with the clutch open, realizing this is the first time i will have ever launced my car. So the GMC flashes us to go. I hear the mr2's tires chirp, so i'm like "fuck it", i rev a bit and then drop the clutch.
first gear goes away, at his bumper. shift to second. bad clutchwork. the distance between us becomes most of a carlength. Second to third: slow shift, and to make matters worse i over rev it. its now at leat 1 and a half cars. 3 to 4 is a good shift but ny then he's pulling hard on me. He shuts down at about 90.
We stop at a rest stop off the thruway. My best friend comes out the gmc and gives me a "pep talk". i get out my car, and smell burnt clutch, and i think "i'm such a noob."
So on the way back to the spot, we go another time, from a stop, this time i get a better launch, as far as reaction time goes, but still he pulls on me by 3rd gear. But this time we dont stop. We get up to like 120 and are dead even, but we had to get off an exit and there was a car in front of us as well.
My 7 is stock except for a cone filter.
so yeah thats my first race story. ask me if you want cliff's notes.

Very nice. Always liked the rotaries...now slap a 20B in there and you're good to go.

Well it doesn't have 3 rotors, but it'll work...lol. That should be nice.
Or if you want to go to hell, you could put a Ford 5.0 in there. Crazy as it sounds, it has been done before.
But like I said, you'll go to hell if you do that.

i know about V8 swaps. (LS1's are popular too)

not bad those mr2's can run 15 flat w/ an intake no problem cuz they are too freaking light!!! A+ for effort and wanting to get Boosted

i thought the new mr2 would be in like the 16s, but whatever.
13b rew isnt a good swap as the 13b re.
i'll keep yall posted on the swap. I already have the ecu and fuel cut defender.

thats what i thought ... but when you look up the times for them they run 15.1 and i met a guy w/ an injen intake showed me a 15 flat for his quarter
they are pretty light and good traction in the rear

eh...those new mr2s (MRS) are pretty slow, 135bhp, and while they are light and mid-engined, they just dont have the power to do much. i cant see a 15 second 1/4 out of one of those. not saying impossible, just unbelievable. maybe the intakes add massive amounts of power, i dont know. i do know is that my fiero GT will run a high 16 low 17, and thats with 140hp, 170 torque, and not much heavier. granted it is an automatic. hard to say, although i raced an MRS andd beat him by about a car length, we shut down about 105mph on the freeway. sorry to hijack the thread ;)
