NOISE IN Front End

Wondering what it could be, when you are driving along you can hear this clunking sound coming from the from end somewhere?? This is from a 96 Voyager....Just had the head gasket replaced as it was leaking oil everywhere! ($1200) Could they have forgot to tighten somthing when they were in doing this other work??? thanks for your input...mishy

clunking sound can be either bad motor mounts are worn ball joints. Does the clunking sound come mostly when you accelerate or does it do it all the time?

YIKES! - check (or have them checked) your cv joints! Still could be a ball joint, tie-rod end, or just about anything that moves with the steering wheel, even maybe a wheel bearing, but I'd bet it is a cv joint based on this piece of info. Look at them and see if the boots are cracked or ripped, that would be an indicator as well.

Do you hear any kind of noise when turning at a real slow speed?

We replaced bushings in the front end of our '98 Caravan 3 times while we owned it (over a 5 year period). When we finally traded it, the clunking sound was back! You only heard it over bumps and it was a definite 'clunk'.

Clunks over bumps would lead me to believe ball joint, shocks, or shock mount. Clucnks while turning wheel side to side.... CV Joint, possibly tie-rod or ball joint, but most likely CV...

The terrible clunking in our 2002 turned out to be the sway bar busings where the sway bar meets the body. Of course we found out only after replacing the stuts, strut bearings and link ends. Start with the cheap stuff first, good luck...
