Head gasket denial

Hello all,
Vehicle in question is '86 Civic sedan, 1.5 12 valve with lot's of miles. Has oil in the coolant but no coolant in oil and no steaming. I've been around long enough to know the usual causes, but wuold like to know if there are any breaches common to this specific engine. Also, how common is a head crack on these engines? (Escort experience you see.) A search of these forums turned up only the opinion I didn't want. ;-) Anyone with any "oddball" diagnoses? Thanks in advance.

The EW/D15 motor is pretty solid. At almost 20 years old, the head gasket is usually the first to go.
