I have a 2000 silverado. In the bitter cold last night I forgot my jacket after geting out. I locked the doors with the button before I got out and reached back in to get my Jacket. In doing so I had to put my keys down.... Right on the seat!!!. I proceded to close the door and lock my self out. I tryed to get in with a coat hanger for an hour last night.. Does anyone know the best way to get in to theses things????

Call the Autoclub and get a tow truck guy to get in for yah.
OR
Get your coat hanger down far enough to press down on the unlock button on your Power doorlocks. You should be able to get enough down pressure with your coat hanger to trip the Power Door locks; I would think anyways?????

I was out there last night for a hour with a coat hanger. I couldn't get enough pressure on the unlock button on the keyless (remember it is on the seat). And I couldn't get a coat hanger on the top side of the door to hit the unlock button, but I can get it in the side (doesn't help much)

Eastwing makes a universal key for vehicles. Opens cars/trucks in a second, flat. :evillol:
I dont see why you shouldn't be able to use a hangar to pop the lock. Wait, on second thought. The trucks have a fairly thick plastic vapor sheild under the door panel. The rods for the locks are underneath it. So you may have to break down (or in) and get a lockservice out there.
sorry, I'm not more of a help.

I had to break into my 97 once and I tried a coat hanger to push the button. It was to flimsy. just have a friend help pry the top of the door open and use a thicker piece of wire. Once I found a piece of wire that worked we opened it right away. That wire always rides in the back of the truck now. Hope Im not too late and you didn't pay for a locksmith.

come to think of it, a thin wooden dowell would probably work, the wire I have is about 1/8 inch. You would be surprised how much you can pry top of the door open with your hands.

On my old truck, a '91 C1500, all of the adhesives started going bad in early 2003. Mirror fell off. Weatherstripping fell off. Here's the kicker - the locking plastic end on one side of the sliding rear window fell off! I never bothered to glue it back on, it held fine on its own as long as you didn't touch the window. I never had to get in that way, but I'm plenty skinny enough to snake in through there.
Sorry it isn't actually of help, just an anecdote that brings back good memories =).

well iam sure your into your truck by now but 1st put a spare key somewhere on your truck use the magnet key box or mechanics wire ,if you wire it up cake it in grease so it doesnt rust ,you wont care when the time come's to use it. if it's ext-cab i go thru the back door quarter glass you can pry the glass open and pop the hold down latch, once open un do the latch from the window so it open's more then use a stick with a bend in it like a hockey stick shape and length reach in a hit the un-lock button with the tip of the hockey stick..it works dont it lots i've even used my golf club once.

My '03 locked itself a month ago. I got out after shutting it off and walked around to the passenger door. It was locked, the doors unlock when you put it in park. With the key in the switch you can't power lock the drivers door. So I guess a nearby microwave hit the right nerve and even set the alarm, found out after I got a ride back to get the spare. I unlocked it with the remote which should disarm the system, not this time. We tried a coat hanger for a few minutes but it's to weak. I have a lockout kit, in the truck. The next day a car in front of me turned into there drive and hit the garage door opener, my doors tried to re-lock, they are already locked 'cause it's in gear. Then I get home, put it in park which unlocks the doors, take the key and open the door. The alarm goes off. HMMMMMM. Anyway, I here if you call home on a cell phone and have someone push the unlock button on the spare remote into the mouth piece and you hold your cell phone aimed at the door it will unlock. No one home for me to try but it is supposed to work. I will experiment with that one day to see.

OK I haven't tried this on my new truck yet, but with the old one I just carried around an old framing square in the bed. A nice cheap on from your local hardware store make a great slim jim in emergency situations. Just practice this before you need it as it's tricky on some vehicles.

Umm..call the cops. They'll do it for free, if they're nice like the ones here.

my friend called the cops to get into his civic once and after only 5 min. of using a slimjim, they politely just broke the window to get in. dicks.
anyway, enginetune, I hope you were jokeing about using the remote through a cell phone.

Nigel215, It is suposed to work. It was sent to me by a relative. Says it works. Hold the cell phone a foot away from the door and have someone press the unlock button on the remote. It's those of us not fortunate enough to have Onstar. The message also says it will work even if your a hundred miles away. All I can say is try it. I haven't yet but I might before I need to just to see. I just need to find someone to assist in the test that won't call the men with the straight jacket.

The day I was looking at the truck to buy it, the salesguy started her up and closed the door but left it ajar (it only clicked once). Fortunately for us, because we were able to stick the antenna through the door frame (had to pull on the door, I didnīt know it could bend that much). and push the unlock button. I really hate that door lock function....

Claim: Cars equipped with remote keyless entry systems can be unlocked via cell phone.
Status: False.
Relaying remote entry system signals via telephone might work if the signals were sound-based, but they're not. An RKE system transmits an encrypted data stream to a receiver inside the automobile via an RF (radio frequency) signal, a signal that can't be effectively relayed via cell phone. (In any event, RKE systems and cell phones typically operate on completely different frequencies; the former in the 300 MHz range and the latter in the 800 MHz range.)

I locked myself out last night and was looking for info when I came across this thread in Google.
This morning, I called my dealership. You need a VIN number and proof of ownership and/or vehicle registration and a picture ID. They will make a key for you.

Just another benefit of having OnStar (or as some call it Blond Star)...I always use my remote to lock my truck. It guarentees I won't lock myself out as well as sets one of the anti-theft systems. If you don't have a remote, then try getting into the habit of using your key to lock the door. Sounds kinda dumb, but it works. I haven't locked myself out in about 33 years (the last time was my '72 Chevy Vega and I did it with the engine running). Was really easy to break in with a coat hanger.
