2003 Tahoe New KEY

Anybody know if/how I can program a new key to my 2003 Chevy Tahoe LT? I'd rather not have to pay the dealer to do it if possible..... OR do you know if I don't have to (ie. does not have a chip in it). I did not see any forums in here for just the key--everyone is talking about the remotes. Thanks in advance.

There is NO chip in the key of the 2003 tahoe (LT or otherwise). There is a chip in the ignition system that senses whether a key is physically present in the steering column, but the key required can be a duplicate from your local hardware store. That just means that if you want to add a remote starter to your truck you have to bypass the chip in THE CAR--NOT THE KEY. WIthout modification, your tahoe will be fine with any key that fits the lock. Cost: about $1.50 at Home Depot, etc. Good luck!
