man iv been wondering why this hasnt been put in place a long time ago. We've had remote controlled robotic vehicles forever why not strap a gun to it and send it in battle!! Gamers are the future soldiers!

Ug...we're turning into a country of computer geeks. I can see it now...

It would be real bad if a hacker got a hold of 100,000 of these.

Theres a few things I love about this.
The $200,000, armed version ...
There are people on this forum that have cars with more money than that put into them, lets all get one and play with them at the park!
(Sebasto wouldn’t comment on what happens if the robot and its controller fall into enemy hands.)
What the hell do you think would happen?
Chances are good the SWORDS will get even more deadly in the future.
Oh great, just what we need, not just a semi-deadly robot, thats not good enough.
Many of the vehicles being developed for the FCS will have some autonomy, meaning they’ll navigate rough terrain, avoid obstacles and make decisions about certain tasks on their own.
So we need to make these things deadlier before we give them a mind of their own?
For the foreseeable future, there always will be a person in the loop who makes the decision on friend or foe.
If we are making these things to kill people and replace human soldiers what "friend" will be around to be shot?
These things are going to be the end of the world. I was always pretty good at mechwarrior so I want to give one a shot though. One question I have is if these things are going to have gameboy type controlers are they going to be able to have cheat codes like invincibility or unlimited ammo?

That might be a ways off still.
Anyway, remote vehicles can't replace a pair of boots on the ground, but they do offer huge amounts of support capablities. For example, the recon and Predator drones that can circle a combat zone for hours, sending live battle video direct to command posts and even engage and destory targets. The future of aircraft is almost certainly unmanned. A F16 airframe can easily handle twice the amount of G force the pilot can. All the controls and life support systems just add weight and bulk, not to mention a cockpit is a big radar trap. The next 20-30 years of military developement will be very interesting. While we may not have a laser chucking Timberwolf (for the Mechwarrior inclined) aka Metal Gear aka giant ass ripping robot I would look for a few powered armor suits in the near future.

Man, I'm joining the army! I wonder what kind of training they have for this...given it may lead to the whole terminator thing, which i doubt but i'm not saying it's impossible this is quite a good idea. Especially considering the amount of soliders we're losing out there...

Scary. Only shoots when a human operator presses the button after 'identifying' the target. Great - another 'smart' weapon from 'US Military Intelligence'.
