I have always wanted to be in the street racing scene, but never had the money, so i didnt bother with it. Well now I do, but I dont know jack about the scene. I just got myself a 2001 Tiburon that I want to use to try and step in. Any tips, pointers or Dummy's guides on who to talk to, or where to go, would be appreciated.

First of all, if you are going to street race dont do any of this on highway with regular civilans around you shit. Please keep it on closed roads or country backroads. becides that, mod your car to hell, and rep hyundai!

well what exactly are the goals of your tib?.. hw much hp are you looking to get.. whats your budget?.. etc etc etc
if you really want help then id start off simple...
intake... exhaust... then headers... or go with a turbo kit...

I do not see anywhere that he is doing that. He is just asking for advice. Escpecially since he is asking where to go, it seems that he is not doing it on the street as you think he is.

As for the question, there are numerous members that do the racing scene here in AF. Besides the members in here giving you advise, I would suggest to check out the Racing (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=718) section. I am sure they would be able to help you out on where to go and whats available in your area.

Have fun and be safe.

Welcome to the scene! Not much into racing, I've just seen way to much happen in my lifetime. I do like knowing the power is there when I need it, though.

It all depends on your budget and hp goals. If you want over 200 whp, you're gonna have to go turbo. If you want to go that route, talk to Tim over at www.speed-factor.com. Now, if you just want a quick car, then here's my advice:

1) Hell, this is a must have PERIOD. Go get the Rside Advanced Short Throw Shifter at www.kspec.com . It is MUCH better than the stock shifter.

2) Get an AEM CAI (Cold Air Intake). It helps somewhat.

3)Get a 60mm throttle body.

4)Get an AirRam Intake Manifold. You can get this at KSPEC.

5)Get the Maintec GT Headers at KSPEC.

6)Get a 2.25" exhaust. Max should be 2.5".

How do I go about removing the RPM, MPH and other engine restrictions exactly? I have been reading up on ECUs, but I am not sure if I need different units for different uses, or if there is one that hits it all. If so, is this a good first investment into my car, or should I throw a few other mods under the hood first?

You can't "remove" the restrictions. ECU has to be replaced for that. That won't give you more HP. It will just shorten the life of your engine. Go forced induction.

3)Get a 60mm throttle body.

hey you know if they make a 60 mm for an 04 i4? i can only find 58mm...

free2roamaz

Ok, so what exactly does a 60mm throttle body add to the performance, and where is a good place to find one online? (Bare with me, I am still new with mod parts.)

Increaseing the air flow. But the there will be bottlenecks. Like the intake itself and the upper & lower intake manifolds.

well as much as it offends people here, if you get on a road where there's no one around, then there's nothing wrong with a bit of accelration.

my girl has an 01... not a very fast car, but it's definately not slow... thankfully you got the 4cyl engine with it, the 2.0 is a nice and easy one to modify. there's a section for all aftermarket stuff on tibs, definately check it out... if your wanting just a straight drag car, go turbo or run nitrous. if your just wanting some fun while your driving around, turbo's an option, but it could affect your mileage... it depends on your budget and other aspects.. be a bit more specific

also, if you feel wierded out by people bashing you for wanting to street race, your welcome at the street racing forums here at af.

Ok so I know its probably nothing to spectacular yet, but I just finished installing the first upgrade for in my car, AEM CAI, and I am loving it. It's addicting. I want to put something else under the hood now. Thanks for all the posted advice.

Yeah, true we want more, but I feel you on the no money gig. I am always broke as hell so when I throw the money down on my tib, it makes it that much sweeter. So far I have about 7,000$ worth of work that I want to have done. Hopefully I will have it all done in about a year. I am thinking headers and catback next.

i'm thinking oil and spark plugs next since i dont think i'm gonna have the money for anythign else for a while

NGK Iridium-you will feel the difference.

do spark plug wires really make that big of a difference also?

Yup they have a larger core diameter, that delievers more current to the plugs. I have good success with Magnecor wires. There is also Vitek, and Nology.
As you ad more mods, they compliment each other. Build on it.

free2roamaz

By using higher grade spark plugs and wires, how much more more abuse will the engine take in the long run, or is it even a significant effect?

Rickna
02-14-2005, 08:54 AM
It's not a matter of abuse (I think you mean engine related mods). A stronger spark will make more efficient combustion, resulting in a stronger stroke=more power & reduced emmisions.

free2roamaz
02-14-2005, 09:12 AM
Ok, but are Iridiums and the bigger wires worth sinking money into this early in my building stages? The only engine mod I have done is the CAI, and I dont want to sink cash into something that wont affect performance as much as it would if I waited till later stages.

BigTDawg
02-14-2005, 04:20 PM
i was looking at the iridium plugs but the only problem with that is the only place by me that has them is auto zone and i refuse to go there cause they are assholes and i'll prob do the same time. from your experience would you say magnecor is the best out of the 3 you listed or is magecor the only ones you've used

Rickna
02-14-2005, 05:05 PM
Plugs are easy to get on the web. Here's where i got mine.
http://stores.ebay.com/AutoPartsWarehouse2000_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsQ 3amesstQQtZkm
If you don't mind spending about $240 on wires then go for the Nology's. From what I've heard the price doesn't justify the gains. I know Tibs that have Vitek & Magecor. Much more affordable. I went for the Mgnecor's because of price & reputation.

BigTDawg
02-14-2005, 07:12 PM
well i'm not all about spending $240 at that point i might as well wait and buy the headers that i never seem to have money for and you can get the plugs from denso's website

BigTDawg
02-14-2005, 07:26 PM

If changing the spark plug wires results in more efficient combustion, does that mean it will also improve fuel economy?

Rickna

I should. But How measureable depends on your other mods & driving habits.
