Project C5R Camaro

Well i picked up a "pre-painted" Revell kit of a new C5R Corvette race car for the wheels/tires/brakes and engine since it was 6 bucks...The result is a LOW camaro with nice wheels and a very "race inspired" look and feel. It is still in the early stages but it's coming along.

Pic of the side, I plan on dropping the back but like i said it's still in the planning stages.

Another shot of the side:

Here's a pic of the front with the engine it's getting:

Here is a pic of the engine by itself ( i realized after the pic i needed to "smooth" the decal, and have since done so. It was my first attempt at carbon fiber decals):

Pic of the rear showing the diffuser (will be angled up some after i get it all to fit the way i want):

Thanks for looking and leave feedback if you'd like.

AWESOME. I love first gen's and this is gonna prove to be a reall kick *** one. by the by how is the 1:1 coming. you get the LT1 settled into its new home yet?

I need help deciding on a color for this project C5R camaro. Havn't picked one. Yes the LT1 found it's new home in my 1:1 car and we got it started 2 hours before we had to make the 400+ mile drive back for school. It runs but not well enough to drive yet, needs new injectors and exhaust but that will come shortly. Should be up and running soon!!!!

Mark Stielow would be proud!!:sunglasse

Thank you for the "ultimate compliment." Mark Stielow is the reason i am into "pro-touring" and the reason i change plans for my camaro. He is my hero when it comes to building cars because he builds the most awesome cars around and has shown us recently that his skills are not just limited to first gen camaros. He will be seeing this model most likely and thanks again for saying that!

WOOT!!!

Now back to the model. I like the idea of white but i've already got a white muscle car and i'm looking for something "flashy" on the outside to showcase the "flashy" driveline...I was thinking a two tone paint scheme or something. Kat suggested i paint it silver with a black top since that's what the donor C5R was painted...Sounds interesting to me but i'm still open to suggestions!

i'd agree with the female on this one. lol. i was thinking of a C5R color scheme. that would keep with the tradition. Steilow has inspired me too. I love his builds. Especially the 502 fuel injected camaro. I just recently picked up a 65 malibu on ebay (model) and plan on doing my best to duplicate MALITUDE

Very cool project! I look forward to watching this progress..

I like the silver on black scheme. It's very fitting as the 1st gen C5R was that scheme. The 2nd gen paint scheme for the C5R would be fitting too, if you want a two-tone paint scheme.

Yea Kat mentioned the Yellow and white on our way back from class today. I like the idea of silver and black more than yellow and white. I probably will be painting it silver and black but we'll have to see how "racey" it will look besides the wheels and stance. I dont want to clutter it up with decals of sponsors etc...If you need pics of Maltitude i should be able to get any and all you need as i have contact with the person that traded stielow for it (traded a car he got that stielow built, the 69 camaro named "thrasher"). Both cars are awesome and maltitude is bad ass...

This is Will69camaro:

Sounds good just let me know :)

Thanks for the enthusiastic responses guys! I did more test fitting today and i'm about ready to start throwing it together, and laying down some paint...It will be silver/gray on the sides and black across the top of the fender and top of the car. Trying to think of what kind of rear spoiler to use, i cut down the C5R one to be the right width but i didn't like the way it looked in mock-up. Also i will cut out the rear valance to expose the diffuser a little more...With as low as this thing sits there will be no front spoiler LOL. Still need to get a cowl hood for it (it has the motion hood). I might do a little mods to the front and put in the radiator from the C5R and open up the front a little more or maybe modify the grill but i havn't decided yet.

More updates soon!

Well i worked on it again today and i put the front spindles and suspension on the front, modified the rear section and interior tub and the rear suspension and have the rear in as well. Still need to paint the wheels (accidentally messed up a wheel pushing it onto the rod that holds it in :( Might not notice it and if you can i'll just buy another kit and use the wheel off it. I have a few pics but need to host them and it's late. I'll put them up tomorrow. I need to paint the interior and make sure i know what i'm doing for paint and then i can put it together. Using this "decked" bottom off the C5R there isn't much detail underneath. It sits LOW.

Thank you for being patient and i hope you like the progress pics. This is how the car sits and how it will sit. I think i either need to find a way to make the engine sit lower or build a custom hood for it because the hood wont clear the C5R covers... Enjoy.

That's all for now. I might get to do a few small things between now and the weekend but i'm not positive. I have alot of HW coming up this week and a couple labs so probably not any modeling...

Let me know what you think of it so far.

Damn, that is a sweet stance it has right now.
That thing looks downright mean.

white97ex
01-31-2005, 11:01 AM
is there any way to raise the body just a hair? i know that chassis sits really low. so it may not be possible. maybe with the same rake, but get the rear fender well up to the same level as the top of the rim. that might give you the clearance you need for the hood. and if not, the motor wouldn't need dropped in the chassis quite as much. anyhow. its lookin awesome. can't wait to see some paint

will69camaro
01-31-2005, 11:17 AM
The way the body is on the "decked" bottom there is no way to get it any higher than that. That is just how it sits...No complaints from me. The engine i can bring down with relative ease. Just a matter of doing it and making sure it's as easy as i think it's gonna be lol. I'm probably gonna start on the body this weekend and hopefully in a week or two i should have paint on it and it should be fully together. Not terrible for what will be aboue a month's work. I like the stance, it looks very "race inspired." I need to think about what kinda spoiler i'm going to put on it. I narrowed the C5R spoiler and mocked it up but it was just too out of place on the 69 camaro. I'm thinking either an adjustable flat spoiler on the rear part of the trunk or maybe a regular 69 camaro spoiler notched or...i dunno yet.

will69camaro
01-31-2005, 03:02 PM
Thanks for all the compliments on the stance...I just hope i can get the paint to be as nice as the stance...This is the first "un-realistic" model i've built (one where there is absolutly no functionality to it). I looked at the engine and i can make it work.

Things will slow down when i have to order a new spoiler and hood for it and finally paint it. It takes me forever to paint because i get worried that it's going to come out bad and i'll have to redo it. What color wheels with a silver/gray top and a black bottom?

Thanks,
William

Well finally made a little more progress on the model. The hood wouldn't fit so i had to do a little modifying to the engine/chassis to get it to let the hood sit down. Here are a few pics of some progress i've made on the model... No where near completed but i laid down the first color of the two tone paint scheme and i'll be laying down the second color maybe before spring break maybe after. Let me know what you think.

that is friggin awesome will. this is gonna be a beast!!!! I can't wait to see more progress....on the wheels how about black or gunmetal with a polished lip?

will69camaro
03-07-2005, 11:20 AM
I havn't decided on the wheels, right now i painted them chrome and with the bottom being black i'll have to wait and see how they look chrome and if i change them it will most likely be to black with polished lips.

Sorry the pics are so small, i wasn't sure what would fit on here and didn't realize how small i made them.

Thanks for the compliments...I really got into the "pro-touring" style when i ran across a 69 camaro built to handle, then i saw the buildup of the mule and i was hooked. I've built a pro-touring camaro before (model of course), this one is my attempt to create a purpose built track 69 camaro.
