97 GTP with issues

I have a 97 gp GTP with some problems. Can someone please help me?
First of all, sometimes the horn will honk 5 times then stop when the car isnt even on.
Second: the service engine soon light comes on from time to time, then goes off after a while. I have the gas cap on tight.
Third: most of the time the fuel gauge says I have a full tank when I know I dont, other times, usually right when i start the car, it will read correctly.
Forth: sometimes the airbag light comes on, then turns off after a few days or so.
Also, would loose idler pulleys or any of the other pulleys in that area make a kind of slight rattley, grinding noise when the car is idling?
what might cause the car to feel like it is slightly hesitating when accelerating from a complete stop, or also while driving (at any speed) then speeding up so that the supercharger kicks in?
Any response would really be appriciated! Thank You!!

Damn,
First when the SES comes on, have you ever had it scanned? That would help a lot.
Do you have an alarm on the car?
Sounds like float could be hanging up.
Bad airbag censor
Yes if pulley is going bad, it makes noises, the worse it gets, the more noise it will make.
Did you just buy this car, or has it just gone down hill for a while?
Keep this list. It may help

I have had the car since 2001, bought it with 89,000 miles on it, now it has 166,000. It has been going down hill for a year or so. I did have one of those computers hoked up to it a few months ago and the only thing that came back was a spark plug missfire. After that I had the sparkplugs and wires replaced and a oil change. Should I have all of the pulleys replaced just incase more than one are loose? What do I need to do about the fuel gage? About the honking horn, I do have a alarm, its just the one that the factry installs when the car is brand new. Or is that just called keyless entry? I dont know, but I do know if you rock the car or kick the tires, the horn will beep quite a bit. must be a alarm.
I have no clue what I need to have done. Please help if you can. Thanks!

I know this is going to sound crazy. But wait till tomorrow. There are two guys on this site that love stuff like this.
Big-L and GTPDAD. Dad runs a garage for GM. And Larry (Big-L) I don't think he sleeps. He has the answer or site for everything.
If those two can't get your car right, tape a dime to the hood and push it in Lake Michigan. You'll be losing 10 cents.
Good luck

It sounds like you have a number of problems going wrong with this car. First, the five honks of the horn are probably related to the security system. These things can be a pain to get straightened out. As far as the service engine soon light coming on I have the same problem with my GTP it will come on for a little while and then go off. I have had it scanned repeatedly but there are no codes in the computer. I think it may be a misfire code that comes on and when the computer does not detect a misfire after so many cycles then the light goes off on its own. As for the fuel guage reading improperly the guage works on a resistor that is located in the fuel tank. If the resistor goes bad then it will not read properly. If you really want to repair this you will need to remove the fuel pump and replace the sending unit. As for the noise you hear that is the coupler in the supercharger making a noise. The couplers wear and will cause this rattling. If it continues to get worse then you may want to have it replaced with an aftermarket one that should eliminate the problem. The hesitation you speak of can be related to several items but I would have the EGR valve removed and cleaned including the passageway to the engine. Also replace the PCV valve if you have not had it replaced since you owned the vehicle. Finally, the Air Bag light is telling you that there is a problem in the system. Take the car to a qualified service technician and have it checked. It could be as simple as a bad sensor or a broken wire.
By the way, Kustomkid54 I am a Safety Manager for a Poultry company. I just have a lot of experience working on cars.

Sorry Dad,
Bad day yesterday. Too many things going on at one time.
But, I know you would have answers.
But, After replaceing the coupler on my supercharger, I still had noise. It turned out to be BOTH pulleies were bad. Sometimes the coupler is fine. And as I say, if it's not sitting here, you never know. And with 166,000 miles on it???
Sorry about the job. No I have to remember who it is that works at GM.

what exactly is a supercharger coupler? When the coupler(s) go bad and start to make a rattling noise, do you need to replace the coupler or the supercharger? where could I purchase whatever it is I need and aprox. how much do you think it might be? thanks!

Go to ZZ Performance.com. They have the coupler for $36 and the supercharger oil for 7.50 per bottle, you need two. To change the coupler you will need to remove the supercharger belt, drain the oil and remove the snout from the supercharger. This can be done with the supercharger on the car. Remove the old coupler and replace it with a new one. Reinstall the snout, refill with oil, put the belt back on and the job is done. You may want to search clubgp.com for directions. I remember reading a post there that had specific directions on how to replace the coupler. Hope this helps! Good Luck!!!

hey, my fuel gauge doesn't read properly at all. mines a 97 gt. my understanding is that the fuel pump and resistor have to be replaced at the same time because they are an all in one unit, making it real expense to just have your gauges read correctly. now i just reset my odometer to keep up with my gas. the problems has gotten worse since i bought the car in 2003; it barely ever reads correct now.

thank you for the coupler info.........im not messing with the gas gauge problem, i have just been keeping track of how much gas i put in it and how much i use also.

i think i would also replace the fuel filter, as that could be getting bad, causing hesitation when you step on the gas. have you ever checked the oil in your supercharger? believe it or not but it doesnt run off the same oil as the engine. it does go low as well, it is a little torx bit just to the right of the pulley. and the little bottle of oil for it (only from a dealer) is around $8-10
