92 Lumina APV 3.8L dies when warm, won't restart for sometimes hours other times minutes or anywhere in between, it seems to be taking longer and longer before it will restart.
I had it towed twice after hours waiting. When the problem is evident there is no power to injectors, and no spark, the computer reports error code 17, Spark reference circuit... I'm thinking its either the crank position sensor or the computer, ECM or could it be the Ignition module? or even bad grounds...
one other symptom is thet the timed burst of power to the fuel pump that occurs when you turn the ingition on before crank, often stays on continuously rather than shutting off after a few seconds,
any ideas??

Might be the CKP, might be the ICM. Take the ICM to Autozone and have them test it, or an easier way is to put a hairdryer to the ICM, warm it up, and see if it'll crank up.

Thanks cadgear, well i tried the hair drier on hot and heated up the ICM heat sink from under the coilpacks, and it starts up ok after an hour of heating that is.. I'm thinking the Crank position sensor, just have to work out how to remove the harmonic balancer without a puller, maybe its time to take it to a real mechanic...
