What driving style is healthier for a car?

Mainly, I want to know what the ideal "RPM" is for an engine to work and also at what RPM is it best to shift up a gear. Always speaking about the cars health and not fuel economy.

Each engine/drivetrain combination is different. Check the owners manual for your vehicle.

Like someone else said, the lower RPM you operate the engine the longer it will last, generally. At low RPM you often have less acceleration, but you get better gas milage and the equipment generally lasts longer.
