ram air intake

I've heard from several people that when you put a cold air intake on, you are supposed to reprogram the computer to accomodate for more air. However, if I put on a simple ram air intake, instead of a cold air, do I still need to reprogram the computer? If I do, how do I go about doing so? (BTW: I drive a 1990 Tbird LX with the 3.8 v6).

No.
You do not need to reprogram the EEC for either.
If you want a chip try Superchips Custom Tuning (http://www.sctflash.com/main.php).

awesome thanks. So even for a cold air intake I dont need to? Also, I have some old intercooler piping (3 inch diameter), would this be suitable for a cold air intake with a K&N cone?

are you sure about the computer? the tccoa tech articles say to unplug the computer for a few hours so it can reset. Who's right here lol?

Should work ok.
Here are a couple of threads from TCCoA.

LOL dude you cant reprogram the cpu its a chip plug and play but the better air flow the better your airflow the better mileage you'll get... just beware if you get too much your car will choke out when its cold (wintertime below 40 degrees) i done what yoru talking bout i threw away my factory tube from behind the MAF sensor to throttle body made a tube out of 4 in exhaust pipe rerouted the inlet tube to the bottom of air box and put a k&n air filter.. and put a tornado inside the tube behind the maf sensor .. thats bout all you can do. i went from 21mpg to bout 33 mpg but pull in a seadoo i get bout 25-26mpg..

ok, here's another question for you guys. Does anyone know if theres a MAF sensor in a 1990 lx? Everyone always says to beware about damaging it, but in all the times Ive taken out my airbox and intake tube, ive never once seen it. (sorry about the dumb questions lol)

Th CPU/EEC can be reprogramed (a.k.a flashing the CPU/EEC) or can piggyback a chip.

No such thing as a dumb question.
I'm not as knowledgeable reguarding the 3.8L V6. I pulled the following from TCCoA.
89-90 3.8 NA's use MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensors.
Only way to gain performance is to either get the car tuned by a PRO (aka a programmer, not just Air/Fuel stuff) or swap to a MAF which requires the EEC, MAF sensor and housing, and wires from a 91-93 3.8 NA MN12. MAP cars have one set programming and anything beyond a 5hp gain in mods will get you nothing.

It's a '96/'97 Xenon body kit. I bought back in '01 from Impact Parts (http://www.impactparts.com/) but I don't think they carry it any longer.
Ebay is the place to get the best deal.

the maf sensor is located behind the air box its aluminum housing with a sensor mounted on top wires connect into it you need to go buy you a hanes manual from autozone or get you a ford service maunal but good luck i got mine from a dealer but the dealer didnt know i got it... LOL
