SRT-4 fun...stock vs S2

My buddy's SRT-4 is stock but he has been thinking about getting the Mopar stage 2 turbo upgrade. He wanted to see what kind of difference there is between the setups first though. Obviously the S2 car will be quicker...that's a foregone conclusion...but the difference is power was more significant than either of us expected.

First run was from about 60mph...

I held up 4 fingers to let him know to start in 4th gear. I think he probably figured I was holding up 3 fingers to show I was about to count down, because after the 3rd honk he took off and I was just sitting there in 4th waiting for the turbo to spool. Oops. :uhoh:

Second run was from 60mph too...

This time we both go from 3rd gear. He honks down and I instantly pull a CL after the 3rd beep. I then proceeded to put maybe 2 or 3 cars between his and mine before 90mph. We did another 2 runs from the same speed and in the same gear. Each time my car pulled a good 50 feet before letting off as I shifted to 4th.

We pulled off the freeway and talked a little. First words out of my buddy's mouth were "that was a raping". It was. We knew my car was gonna be faster but didn't expect those kind of margins at freeway speeds. So we flipped a bitch and headed back to the freeway. On the way back he pulls up next to me and wants to do a 30mph roll in second gear.

Final run was from 30mph...

The front of my car was more or less even with his passenger side door when he was counting down. We were running out of road so I said fuggit...what's 4 feet. Once he hit the horn for the 3rd time my car jumped forward like a raped ape. There's definately a significant difference in low-end spool, and consequently torque, at low RPM. I was pulling away at a pretty good clip so I let off pretty quick. I'd say maybe 2 car lengths before 50mph.

Stage 2 is money well spent. I just emailed my buddy the name of the place I bought it from. Seeing is believing. :iceslolan

nice race man.
And i see that you have a nice car too. Did you did a dynorun with it? It looks fast with those mods on it.

I'm curious now :naughty:

Yeah really nice car and good races. There's a guy around here with a Stage 2 or 3, not sure which, but that thing goes like crazy. There certainly isn't much that can beat it bang for the buck.

I almost traded my mustang for a stage 2 SRT-4. Those things are pretty damn fast.

Thanks guys. I've never had it dyno'd. My buddy's car has been though. He was at 241whp/263wtq. Based on other owners with the same power adders...stage 2 w/o toys & 3" cat-back exhaust...I think I'm between 280whp and 290whp. Torque at the wheels is probably between 305ft/lbs and 320ft/lbs.

As impressive as those cars are... they're still only putting them to two wheels...
If you know anything about the Mopar SRT-4 that Doug Sheppard ran in the SCCA ProRally Series, you know he's a little North of 300hp. Well, I was a Stage Captain at the last Rally of the series (ever), and when he lined up at the start line, his co-driver (name escapes me) gave me a Mopar hat. So anyway, his minute comes up, and he launches hard. And when he launched, he threw a rock about 4" in diameter RIGHT past my face. I caught up to them later (at the Awards Banquet) and said, "Ya know, if you'd wanted the hat back, you could've just asked me for it..." and proceeded to tell them the story. So anyway, they laughed.

Back to my point, no disrespect toward those little rockets.

I know exactly what you mean. My SRT-4 is for sale right now. I've already negotiated a great price on an '05 Evo and been pre-approved for a great loan. I just need to sell this little rocket first.

I just took some white paint and went out to my car. I wrote Greddy Turbo kit, FMIC, and 3" Catback exhaust on my car. Will that make my car faster because they are on it? :grinno: J/P. Saw that and I had to do it. Late...

How much you selling it for?

I'm asking about $17.5 w/the mods. I'll take around $16.5 without. It's an '04 so it has the LSD and 10yr/100k mile powertrain warranty. Also has side airbags and sunroof. I've got a couple people interested right now but they're all pretty much a few weeks away from having the money. I'm in no hurry though. Beggers can't be choosers, but ideally I'd like to sell it to a local enthusiast who's a little older. Most of the guys who've called and emailed me have been between 16-18. At that age I would have killed myself in this car. I've really babied this thing so it would still kill me to see some young kid wreck it and, even worse, hurt himself. Here's my add on CARS.COM.

If you didn't live on the otherside of the country that would be sold right now.

LOL. Murphy's law is a bitch, ain't it? If you're seriously looking for an SRT-4 check the buy/sell section of the SRT forums. I've seen a lot of good deals in there. It's good for you and bad for me, but nothing depreciates like a Dodge.

I'm kind of in the middle. If a good deal comes my way..I'm going to jump on it. But I'm not necessarily out looking for a deal, ya know what I mean?

I know what you mean. I'm sorta the way with an STi. My mind's more or less made up on an '05 Evo, but if a great deal on an '05 STi falls out of the sky at the right time I might get it instead. Good luck though dude.

Mr. Dampachi.....what happened to your plans for an intercooled kenne bell?!?!

dampachi
01-23-2005, 05:34 PM
Well highrev87...when my mustang was rearended..that bitch that hit me got away. So I had to pay for the repairs out of my pocket. And that was my kenne bell fund. :( So now I only have enough money for some bolt ons...but I was thinking about just trading it in for an SRT-4.

Well I can understand your reasoning now. Mustangs are slugs until worked on, where as with a SRT-4, you get your speed fast. Fun, but not my taste. If I were to go 4 cyl, id look at an evo or sti, niether of which is close to my price range. But i like my slug, and once money comes, ill be sure to spend it.

HighRev87

...and by slug, i mean for track racing. They obviously are faster then your average car lol.

I still have dreams about my 9psi intercooled kenne bell..and I get all happy thinking about it. Then I remember I don't have that much money anymore. :( I'll probably just do some bolt ons and call it a day.

Kenne Bell is a manufacturer of superchargers.
