Brake booster.

I installed a new brake booster on my 95' Teg GSR about a week ago because my buddy said that it had a leak in it and that if I didn't replace it that it could harm my engine by running too lean. Anyways I bought a new remanufactured brake booster and had my buddy install it. But now my brakes lock up on me after about five minutes of driving. The only way to release my calipers is to switch that little one way valve (I think its called a proportioning valve) around the opposite way which basically deactivates my booster and makes it really hard to step on my brake pedal. But it's either that or not be able to drive at all. I've had a number of opinions but noboby seems to have ever had this problem. Can anybody out there help me out?

a brake booster wouldnt make your engine run lean; its isolated from any engine parts(it just uses the vaccum from the intake of the engine). i think the valve you're talking about is the check valve(plastic, connected with black vacuum hoses); the proportioning valve is connected hydraulicly and controls the front/rear brake bias(its metal and connected with metal brake lines).
did the old brake booster have any problems; if it was leaking it would be harder to step on then usual.
it sounds like the brake booster is getting stuck or something(maybe staying open). if the old brake booster still worked(meaning you can step on the pedal fine and itll brake fine, a brake booster wont/cannot hurt your engine. you can take your brake booster out and your engine will still be fine), then you didnt have to replace it. i would have someone check the install to make sure everything is in correct.
btw, when it locks up, does the pedal stay down or the pedal still comes back up but the actual brakes are still engaged?

i would say it's the check valve too. probably a pretty inexpensive part to replace even if it doesn't fix it. but what do i know, i deleted my booster...

I found out what the problem was. My buddy who installed the booster didn't read the big red sign that came with the booster that said "WARNING: Adjust the clearance of the rod to prevent brake lock up." Thanks anyways guys for the help.

My brakes lock up the same way when my engine is off. Is this normal?
