downpipe stuff

I'm thinking about buying the Apexi GT Racing 3" downpipe. It's extended into a straight pipe to eliminate the cat. Would that bolt right on to a Thermal R&D cat-back, or would a have to custom-fabricate the bolt-holes and stuff, since theyre from different companies?

I dont know what flange is on the thermal catback. If it bolts to the stock cat, you can bet it wont work ;) This is why I like to buy non brand name exhausts. Then you know its all compatible, because it is standard 2.5 or 3" piping and flanges, not this fancy in between size BS you see on a lot of name brand parts. I think your best bet is going to be seeing what dowpipes other people are using with that catback. I have a feeling the RRE downpipe works with it, and the RRE DPs use Apexi 3" flanges (nice and beefy, but standard 3" pipe size). Hope something here is helpful, good luck.

well, the thermal is 3", so size wasnt a problem, but I didnt even think about the flange being designed to bolt to the cat. Whoops. I'll probably go with 3" parts from some of the DSM specific brands on dsmtuners like AHP or whatever, since they're just as good but wont cost an ass-load.
Are any of these brands better than the rest? I dont know a lot about them (AHP, Buscher Racing, Dejon, etc.)

I prefer the RRE downpipe, very well done for the money. Most of the others use a very short flex section. The highest priced component in a downpipe is the flex section, so thats where the vendors all try to save a buck or two. Problem is short flex sections don't live very long. It uses a full 3" 2 bolt flange (apexi style). Unfortunately I dont know exactly what catbacks are compatible with it (besides N1 obviously) since I made my own. I've heard good things about the VRS systems SBR sells. AHP has always taken forever to get parts from, for what its worth. Bushur is always a safe bet, but they typically arent the cheapest out there. Can't go wrong ordering from them though, they stock all the exhuast parts and ship right away. Like RRE. Thats all that comes to me right now. Continue to do some research. Exhaust is a simple mod, but you want to get it right the first time with no regrets.

yeah, ive just been searching through a ton of vendors, and on slowboy racing, they have a full turbo-back VRS system for $800, which is stainless and 3", a pretty good deal. I need like 300 more bucks, and then I think thats what ill get.

Damn, those are cheap. I definitley prefer stainless over aluminized. The RRE downpipe is sweet, especially the long one with the attached straight pipe ( theres no way im having a cat on my new exhaust :evillol: ) I might just attach that to the N-1, since it uses Apexi flanges. If I order it from RRE, I can get both of those for $720.
