how difficult is it to install power door locks on my 2000 s-10? I am thinking of ordering the parts from JC Whitney, if seems like a pretty easy install, a friend can help with wiring (hey i gotta blame someone other than me) .... or should i just have a "professional" install them for me?

I'd seriously go to a wrecker, and find a nice set of matching doors, with power everything.

I don't know about Chevy, but often Ford runs all the wires, and plugs right up to the door for an easy job

most manufacturers do just becase its easyer and cheeper to have the line do the same thing each time, instead of checking an order, and then risking it and messing up the order, it would be like sitting in a resteraunt, and you get someone elses food, but instead of food you have no options or the cadilac of them

makes sense..

I forgot to mention, get new door hinge pins, and talk to the owner of the wrecker on a Friday Afternoon... offer him beer money, and your nice clean doors in exchange. He might give you 1 great deal then

That would be nice and all,but the only problem with that is getting nice cherry doors(no dents, scratches, rust)and not to mention color match. Now if you could get the guts and interior door panels, that would be something to look into.

Have put the aftermarket locks on a couple trucks. With remote too. Fairly simple to install and they work fine. Get some really good deals on the whole kit on Ebay now and then. The wiring gets a little tricky but if your friend has some experience with this, should be no problem.

i already bought the alarm 3 weeks ago (needed it then, not now!!!) i hate waiting for the services to the items that i have allready purchased.... they take my $$ from my bank in 2 days, why can't I have services in 2 days??

mike, i dont know if its because im cheep or my grandpas instinct kicken in, but they wouldnt have one red cent of mine untill my truck was in the shop, then they could take 100% of what i owed them, and for an alarm, most places make that a "high priority" install item, if it was 2 weeks i would of gone else where, unless it was my schedual that they had to work around

Being a month out is a little much. Being an owner of a shop, I do have to schedule sometimes 2 or maybe 3 weeks out but only around Xmas time because of remote starts. Either way, I don't ask for money until time of sevices rendered.

BTW, I've seen Circuit City's $40 doorlock install and trust me, you don't want them!!!!

Just to add to that,I wouldn't let anybody from Circuit City or Best Buy install anything for me.Sorry if I step on anybodies toes. :2cents:

they did my install of pdl;s when they did my remote and alarm, i went to roll the window down because it was hot, and dip shits, the lock was in the way, i went back, they fixed it no problem, 2 reason i let them do the instal, 1. lifetime warrenty and 2. insurence break/protection

The last one I saw was on the new PT cruiser. They put locks all the way around. The rear doors you couldn't shut the doors if you opened them from the inside. They put the motors right inline of the door rods so when you pulled them, they would hang open and the doors wouldn't latch. Then the customer wanted one on the hatch and they said it would impossible to do that. Well, I was able to properly install a lock motor on the hatch within 20 minutes. Then I moved the motors in the doors.

The real sad part was they just used cheap 2wire motors and hooked them to a keyless entry. So, the only way to use the motors was to use them with the keyless. I always use 5wire motors for the fronts that way if the keyless stops or whatever, they can lock and unlock all the doors with either front door.

The kicker was they charged more than what I do!!!!!

Take it back, they didn't give you what you asked for so they have to change it, or refund your money

Nope, all OEM locks are 2wire. See, the 5wire locks have the "switches" built inside them so you do not have to mount any switches anywhere. With 2wire locks, you have to use 2 relays and then mount switches somewhere. I like the 5wire systems because they look cleaner. Plus, it's great when I ad them to my old rods. Like my '73 Trans Am. It didn't come with power locks so I added the 5wire system. Now I have it all and it looks stock.
