A buddy of mine at school just got a mitsu turbo for a good deal, and he brought it to me to see if it would work on his 71 Camaro(he's kinda new to turbos). Anyways, IT'S FRIGGIN SMALL but I was wondering if anybody knew what kinda boost/hp/tq ratings this thing can put out. I'm pretty sure it came off of an eclipse because I know eclipse turbos are pretty small compared to mine (no offense). Also, if it helps, it's called a "TD05-3" and it says "DUCH" on the turbine housing. If anyone has any info on it, that would be great and thanks in advance!!!

Sounds like a 14b... Here is a picture of one, does it look something like this? Or if you could get a picture of it that would be awesome.

ummmmmmmmmmmmm, it could look something like that 'cept it doesn't say TD05 on the housing (not stamped anyways). It has like a metal tag riveted er something on the housing and that's where it says TD05-3 and the serial number, yadda yadda yadda. I could probly take a pic with my bros digital camera and post it. Just curious though, do you have the boost/hp/tq ratings that he could get out of the turbo IF it is that turbo that you posted???

The boost numbers dont matter at all since its going on a motor with 3 times the displacement. ;) But for HP it will move enough air for 300 whp. Unfortunately this will more likely be a power reducer than a power adder on a v8. I would be looking at at least a 65 pound turbo, with a real big exhaust housing.

Well, come to think about it, if he is going to use 2 turbos, which is very common on V motors, it doesnt have to be so big. So that 14b could be good for 600 hp if used in pairs. The exuast side is still going to be pretty restrictive though. Assuming the motor is a 5.7 liter, thats 2.85 liters per turbo. Yeah, way too small. Go with something meant for large displacement motors. :)

yeah, i know it's too small for his car. I meant to post about his bike too because he has a custom chopper and when I told him it was too small for his car (the first time I saw it) he said he wants to put it on his bike then. Anyways, ummmmm can someone tell me the boost numbers of the 14b that you spoke of and I will post a pic, I just have to borrow my bros digital camera and that should help a lot. Also, another thing I just remembered is that the exhaust side doesn't have bolt holes for the downpipe. It just has a friggin hole that I was told the downpipe just slides in er sumthin :uhoh: I dunno if that wiill help you tell me what turbo it is w/out seeing it but maybe???? Anyways, thank you guys for replying but I gotta go to bed now cuz im frippin tired!!!

I believe this is accurate
TD05-14B (stock 1st gen) 275-300hp @ 21 psi
Those numbers are off of a dsm of course.(inline 4cy. 4g63t)

Thats about right for a DSM, but again boost numbers are absolutely meaningless once you change the displacement. The only thing that remains constant (and usable) is the mass flow rate, which is 30 lbs/min. Thats good for 300 HP. IT would do a whopping 3-4 psi on a 350 probably, and could do 100 psi on a 5 hp briggs and straton. Who cares, boost doesnt equal power. Mass airflow does :)

ok, first of all thank you for replying but now the plans have changed. I bought the turbo off of my buddy and my brother is going to pay me back and we're going to make a kit to go on his '96 Integra LS because I think it would do a lot better on the small motor and he's wanted a turbo for a long time. It should be fun though!!!

That makes more sense :) Good luck with the project. Boost numbers will be similar to DSM since the displacements are close. What is the exact displacement of that motor anyway, 1.8? I've forgetten more about DSMs than I ever knew about hondas. Mitsu turbos on hondas has been done before, so there is plenty of info out there on how to go about it.

i dunno if you know but you should be able to use the stock turbo manifold from a 1G or 2G dsm on your teg. you just have to redrill one hole
