some nice cars. the only thing i envy about the SE-R is the rear independent suspension. i have this multi-link rear beam nonsense.

He looses race number three because he missed a gear. The Z is probably going to weigh a little less, but has a passanger. Good videos.

I'm surprised the SE-R was able to beat the Z...nice.

I'm very surprised. My friends mom has one of those altimas and he's tried to race me before in it and I flat out slaughtered him. But, I got beat awhile back by a 350Z with i/h/e.

Is it just me, or is the Z an auto??

Obviously the Z is a MT since that guy misshifted in the 4th race or was it the 3rd.

I didn't post race 1 & 2 because the link wasn't working. The Altima beat the 350Z by a car or two from a stop in the first race, but the 350Z won the 2nd one.

Oh and the Altima wasn't the 6 speed, it was the 5 speed manual one, I think that's what they said. They're deffinitely sleepers, as you can see what a stock one can do.

Obviously?? Looks to me its just an auto, in "manual" mode... listen to his shifts...

And the "misshift" sounded like he simply forgot to shift...

Well the "misshift" was a MISSHIFT as it's a 6 speed MT. "Manual Mode" wouldn't require him to shift that hard, would it?

And you can clearly see him pressing the clutch in with his left foot during the 1-2 shift.

Ok how about this - the guy who showed me the video knows both of these guys' rides and the 350Z is a 6MT and the SR-E is a 5MT

And the guy moving his left leg during shifts isn't having tantrums, it's called engaging the "clutch".

yeah those were definitly manuels. you hear them let off the throttle everytime they have to shift, and they were peeling their tires on the 1st to 2nd shifts hard.

anyways yeah the take offs makes all the difference man.

LOLZ YOUR SO FUNNY, OMGZ PUSHIN IN DA CLUTCH. I have a 5spd...so I know all about pushing in clutches. No need to get all defensive..I was just asking what he was talking about.

dampachi, isn't it YOU who gets OFFENSIVE?
Like many times in other threads? :loser:

Btw, good movies. I love the shot of the driver of the Z making faces when he shifts and the you can see the driver of the altima just behind the head of the z. The other seemed to be quit calm in his races.

Nicely filmed :smokin:

wow, really sweet vids. the se-r is a nice car, but isn't it almost 30 grand? if i am correct, then i would just go for the z instead. rwd>fwd

i have a g35 w/260hp, and that's about 200 pounds heavier than the 350z. it's an auto also, so do u guys i could've kept up?

Hmm, the SER was an Auto also. Maybe you could have kept up, but not for long. I agree, it's not worth $30K, might as well add a couple of thousands and buy a 350Z or a G35C and get a lot more for your money.

hmmm, i think i can keep up. not sure if the se-r will pull away, or if i will even be able to stay close. i know the z would have walked away, like he did on the se-r, but i wonder if i could have kept up w/the altima...I KNOW!!!!...some bench racing is the answer!!!

btw, if one really wanted an altima, they should probably just go for the 3.5se. the SE is $23,150 retail value compared tot he se-r's $29,200, and the only difference in engine power is 10hp and 1 ft lb of torque.

check out this link for the prices, and hp numbers of the whole altima line (http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Spec_Glance.aspx?modelid=11165&trimid=-1&src=VIP&tab=2&sub=0)

another point, i was on msn looking at the hp rating for the 2005 g35 (they have been increased), and the manual models have more hp than the auto models. but, the auto models have more torque than the maunal models. i read on g35board that nissan engineers did this in order to make each auto/manual car feel faster. the manual would have more hp b/c manuals are usually revved higher, and more hp @ a higher rpm is more fun. The opposite is true for the auto. one would want more low down pulling power since that is the essense of an auto. one can go half throttle, and have the auto shift to the appropriate rpm in a seemingly unending accelerative push (it's nice-i do it everyday).

click here to see the hp ratings, etc for the whole g35 line (http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Spec_Glance.aspx?modelid=11544&trimid=-1&src=VIP&tab=2&sub=0)

back to my bench racing:

0-60:5.3*
0-100: couldn't find it, but probably a mid 13
1/4 mile:[email protected]*

the performance numbers for a z range from the fastest one (see above ^) to 5.8 and [email protected] for road and track to a 5.5 and a 14.3 for car and driver.

I couldn't find any performance numbers for an auto se-r, but i did find some numbers for an 2002 auto 3.5 SE V6.

nissan altima se-r
260hp@5800
250ft/lb@4400
0-60:?
0-100:?
1/4 mile:?

nissan altima 3.5 SE V6 (auto-four speed not five)
240hp@5800
246ft/lb@4800
0-60:6.6*
0-100: couldn't find
1/4 mile: [email protected]*
*coutesy of Motor Trend

imagine what the the car would be like w/10 more hp, and one more gear, and that is essentially an se-r. i am predicting around a 14.7.

All in all, this session of bench racing hasn't yielded any revelations concerning the issue of my car vs. the altima. THIS IS WHY BENCH RACING SUCKS! i don't mean to hijack the thread, but i was just curious.

i think i would have been able to keep up w/the altima, but it would have beaten me @ xx mph (not really sure, maybe around 100). the 350z would have smoked me.

EDIT: An automatic altima se-r weighs 3316 lbs, a manual 350z (enthusiast model) weighs 3197 lbs, and an automaitic g35 sedan weighs 3468 lbs.

(")Thus, he has a 152 lb advantage on me, he makes his peak hp 200 rpm below me (gets hp sooner, but will that be negated when i hit my peak 200 rpm later?), and he makes 11 fewer ft/lb or torque at the same rpm.

(")The 152 lbs will give him about a .15 advantage in the 1/4mile, but I am not sure what part my 11 more ft/lb or peak hp 200 rpm higher will play. I would say that this is very evenly matched, AND I HAVE MANAGED TO HIJACK A PERFECTLY GOOD THREAD. I apologize.

CLIFF NOTES:

PROBLEM: Tried to see how his car stacks up agaianst se-r.

SOLUTION: Has a pretty good idea of how he stacks up against the se-r, and thinks it woul dbe pretty even.

RESULT: I'm going racing tonight, and i'll post any new kills/losses later on :).

I wouldn't worry too much about magazine times. This guy for example ran a 14.1 in an almost stock 3.5SE so I'm pretty sure the SE-R will get as close to the 13s as possible.

I dont use mag times, I use the ones of that Drag times website. It gives you a good idea of the spread of times people can run. Good luck with racing if you can get any.

very true. magazine racing is not my cup of tea, but i didn't even think of dragtimes.com.

i editted my post before i read your respones, so according to magazine racing it woul dbe close. yet, i tend to think that only real life experience will determine this.

thanks guys :)
