How good are the stock automatic transmissions in these cars? Would it be okay to run a turbo setup at 8 psi with about 230rwhp on the stock transmission? The transmission is in pretty good shape, with 70k miles on the car.

should be ok, Id try to run a shift kit at the very least
a large external aftermarket transmission cooler would help a lot, HAYDEN makes some good ones... hell even al ittle mini fan on it would make it real nice. you could also upgrade to a transmission from a 300zx twin turbo with the above mods also, or an Infiti q45 transmission(90-95)

at the top of that page is a model for your application.
it says:
TRANSGO® SK® RE4R01A 67930 NISSAN RE4R01A/JR403/R4AX-EL Shift Kit®. CORRECTS, PREVENTS or REDUCES planetary burn up, 3rd clutch failure, forward clutch failure, soft 1-2 shift, band failure and low lube flow. This kit has special high temperature (low shrink) sealing rings. Comes with complete, easy to follow instructions.
what that means from me:
makes 1-2 shift faster and harder, and increases fluid circulation. It prevents burnup on the planetary, which usually happens with low fluid and is expensive to fix, however still running with no fluid will tear it up. Helps out on the bands, kind of think of those as a clutch, they hold better and last longer in gear now. it is defintely an improvement over stock for more durability, and a faster performing automatic transmission.

this company makes a torque converter for the nissan, I would recromend atleast a 2500 stall speed, maybe even 3000 stall. Another excellent modification! it will launch harder and essentially this part acts like your dumping the clutch at ahigher RPM on a launch with a 5 speed. Your launch RPM's will be closer to the power band. Make sure to get a lock up model torque converter for fuel effeciency while cruising.it says 300zx for their torque converter but its basically the same transmission as your 240sx just beefed up a little bit, ask them and find out if the input shaft and the torque converter hub are the same for a 240sx application and a 300zx(their torque converter) application, I don't know myself to be honest with you.
hey but what do I know, IM retarded to all these people here, this will be my last post hope you get some useful information
