'88 engine into '92? (long winded,tech questions)

Hi guys. I'm a total newb to Mazda trucks so please bear with me if my questions seem juvi! I'm a Jeep guy and experienced with engine swaps, but clueless to Mazda model year interchangeabilty. (used the search option, but didn't find many answers)
Have a '92 B2200 that's mint, but engine blows smoke and won't pass Ontario emissions. Also have absolute junk of an '88 but with only 93 000 miles on it. (runs and starts mint)
So obviously the carbureted engine is going to go into the '92.
Now, because the carbed engine works so well as it is, it is def going to stay carbed. So my questions are, what obstacles will I run into in doing this swap?
Here's what I've come up with so far:
Fuel-will need an inline regulator to reduce pressure to carb and leave mechanical pump for dead
Electrical-take carb'd ECM over also, but will I be able to adapt the '92's power supply to it?

Ideally I'd like to leave everything I can still attached to the '88 that I can. Short of the fuel injection, did anything change between these trucks.
Would there be any reason I can't pull the '88 with transmission and exhaust manifold still attached and drop it right into the '92?

So I am coming to the conclusion that your '92 mint b2200 is fuel-injected?? But it blows smoke correct? If so, then u obviously have a stuck ring, etc. and u say u have a good motor in the other. Right?........Then just swap the motor they are the same. LEAVE THE FUEL INJECTION as it is far superior to a carburator..more power, better response, and better gas milage ......18-20mpg for the carb and 25-30 w/fuel injection. There is no comparison, rare though(the fuel injected b2200)only made in california from 90-93 let me know what you decide good luck.

And to answer your question about the difference in the two trucks. I have looked into this and the entire system is different, from the harness, to the fuel tank the pcm etc etc. A really cool upgrade I would like to do though would be to take an old 626 2.2 FI w/the 12vhead and adapt the whole system to the truck, now that would haul butt. The sedan has a lot more power than the trucks.

they arent too bad to put the 626 engine in, i've just got one (turbo) and im starting the install on april 16th, i'll get pics and let you know how the progress goes
