This minivan is my first Dodge, and I see a check gauge light but no check engine light when I turn the key to start the engine and all of the lights test themselves. Is the check gauge light on this Dodge the same as a check engine light on say a Ford or Chevy?

On my 92 Caravan, my check guage light comes on when there is a problem, i.e. overheating. Its a light and chime to tell you there is a guage that you should be looking at. Its a great option that Dodge has put in for those of us who are too absent minded to keep an eye on the guages while we're driving. If your check engine light doesnt come on when starting the van, the bulb could be burnt. Does your check guages light go out after your van is running?

Yes the check gauges light lights up at startup and then goes out. That and the fact that there is no check engine light showing at any time on the dash was what had me wondering if the check gauge light was in place of the check engine light. I will have to figure out where the check engine light is on the dash display and check for a burnt out bulb.

do this to see if your check engine light works: turn your key on/off 3xs ending in the on position. If it flashes at your, it's working b/c it's in diagnostic mode. If it lights up twices, pauses then flashes another 4xs, that's a code 24; it's giving you codes that are in memory.

The bulb is burnt out I suppose I get to learn how to remove the instrument cluster on this vehicle now (sigh)
