Hey guys, I have a question about a couple vehicles that I am looking at. Im in the market for a cheap 95-97 Eclipse and I have found a couple "seemingly" good candidates. First off, is this 96 GS which runs good and has a 97 front end conversion, exhaust, and some other stuff, and seems to be in good condition. Also has 96k miles. Second is this 97 Eclipse RS with a HRC Stage 2 turbo kit. I looked this kit up and its a $3000 turbo kit. The problem with this eclipse is that it has the CE light on and has a boost leak or something similar, because it doesnt boost or rev. past 4k. It also is like 3 or 400 more then the stock GS, but it come with a molded blitz body kit and 18" axis wheels. Im still thinking about buying a used GST with 100k miles or more so I can get it in my price range. But the cars listed above are close or under $3000, which is less then I will pay for a GST with 100k+ miles. So my question is, do you think I should look into buying one of these vehicles? I am a sucker for turbo sounds and performance, but I can always build on the GS. Also, I dont know if the problems with the RS-T are really serious, or if they can be fixed. I also found a similar forum where the owner of the RS-T posted his problem and he seems to be having a lot of trouble with it, so thats kind of scaring me away. Please help me out because I am new to DSM's. Thanks

if you are new to DSM's i'd stay around from someone else's project. mainly because it might not have been done right, and you can't fix it.

figure out why you want a 2g dsm. looks, performance, image? if you are looking for performance get a GST much easyer than trying to build on a GS. If you are just looking for looks/image, then get a GS/RS 97-99. the 95/96 modles don't look nearly as good.

Get the GSt you wont regret it. take it form someone who owned a GS. Once i got it it was ok for a while but you need some speed to back it up. Now that i drive my GSt it feels like my old car could have gotten smoked by Geo metros. :( So i suggest get the GST. The boosted GS/RS It will be a money pit if its already acting up. Plus on a gst with little install here and there will be faster than your turboed RS/GS With way less money.

Seriously hold out for a gsx or a gst at the least... I know I wish I had. And I can back george up on the fact the 420a just isn't satisfying. The thing I hate most is these cars look so smooth and fast, and with a gs you don't get the power to back it up. It's like a let down each time you punch it lmao.

I just wrecked my Gs. I'm fixing it but I'm planning on getting rid of it and buying a 4x4 suv. Then comes the searchnig and waiting till I find a 2g awd dsm. lol

you said a gst would be out of your price range. I got my '95 gst with 115k on it for $2900. Just look around and you'll find one for cheap.

turbo turbo turbo(factory turbo'd of course)

AWD is just a bonus(that you'll love as much as having that turbo)

I have owned a Talon ES and a TSi FWD. I actually drove the TSi when I still owned the ES and that is why I sold it. It was SLOW SLOW SLOW!!! Now with my TSi I love it, but I still kind of wish I had an AWD. However, I like the challenge of the FWD. At least hold out for the GST man. You will for sure regret it otherwise, I promise.

Unless you can find out what is wrong with this car, I wouldn't buy it. If the guy spent that kind of money on a turbo kit and it doesn't run... Either something major has broke, or it was never done right in the first place.

like someone said up there, it does depend on what u want. the only reason why i never got a GSX is because im infatuated with Spyders. Im on my second one right now, first one was NT, this one is turbo... traction control is a problem, but nothing good launch technique cant cure, or an LSD for that matter....but yeah, get turbo if you can...youll be wanting the power to back up the looks sooner or later.
