Block heater or no block heater

I hear about these block heaters but don't know much about them. I have a 2004 cavy. it does not have a block heater but I was thinking about getting one. How do you install them and would I have to lift up my hood everytime I want to plug it in. And are they worth it. If it's better for the motor I would'nt mind having one. But I live in Pa. It doesen't get below zero to often but it does however stay cold here for awhile. Thanks

Look in fron of your coolant bottle there may be a plug there if there is you have one. Parts stores sell them. You need to remove a core plug, plastic round cap in Engine that stops the block cracking if it freezes and these push out and then you just have the wire. you can have it hanging out the front without having to lift the hood but that'll damage the wires. But at tat temp I wouldn't bother. It's about 25 farenheit up here in Ontario and I haven't used mine yet!

aparently you aren't from northern canada..lol...you need a block heater out here...or else you aren't getting to work. Mine has block heater and some fan to keep the inside warm.

I only use my block heater when it gets below -25C. I use Mobil 1 5w30 synth oil. That makes a HUGE difference when starting in the cold.
