I'm out on a empty highway/street(it's called Bee-Line Highway but it has stop lights every few miles) at around 11:00 last night when i see this Bimmer aggresively cut out to the outside lane(4 lane road, 2 per side). It then starts to pick up speed and pull away. I'm doing about 65 in 4th at this point and decide to follow and see if he wants to play. I get it up to 80 and I catch up to him, and see an M3 badge on the back. At this point i'm confused because the car only has one muffler. I pull to the side of him and it is regular(no fish grills, no other M Badge). It's a guy my age(late teens, early twenties). I look at him

ME: :naughty:
HIM: :smokin:
ME:

I down shift to second, then he drops the hammer. I follow suit and shift to third at 4800 rpms, we get even as soon as i shift, but then i start pull. At 4th my whole front end has him, then at fifth he is at my door. I'm doing about 110 when starts creeping up on me. At 120 we're even, at 125 he has a door on me. I shut it down there while he only slows down a little.

I continue driving a tad disappointed because i got beat by a damn poser with that fucking M badge. I start thinking it was probably a 325 or a 330 from the mid-ninties.

It sounds like you raced an older "M3" which in fact would only have one muffler, unlike the new ones which have two.

speedthrill

that could be it, an older m3. Was it the old more blocky design?
If not, are you sure it was an m3 badge cause it could be possible that it was a badge of the garage of the bmw with some design on it like the m3 sign. Here in Belgium you see that alot, even on 5's and 7's.

it was a mid ninties body style. i know because my g/f has a 94 318is and it looked the same.

It couldn'thave been an M3 because a M would've have smoked me with ease. My Maxima makes 190 hp and the mid ninties M's were making around 250, plus an M would be rear-wheel drive and lighter than y nissan totaling in a severe case of pawnage of me.

I'm pretty sure it was a 2d 325 just with an M badge on it.

Good race on your part either way. Had you shut it down sooner you could have keep the win.

It must have been either a 325 or a 328is. You shouldn't have lost to anything lower than the 325.

The M3 would have smoked you a lot worse.

Thats what i'm sayin, it was a 325. The 318's and 320's have a 140 hp.

But I' gonna have a nasty little surprise for all these racers soon :evillol:

Cool, those Maximas are no joke with FI.

Yeah, probably a badged up E36 325ci or 328ci.

that h/p increase they listed made me almost piss my pants. damn i can't wait. Along with some other mods i have in store i should have around ~300-~320 h/p depending on how it all works out and dynos.

shoulda gone turbo, the VQ30 @ only 4 psi can make 275 whp and 370whp @11 psi(www.turbomaxima.com). Stillen S/c is only shown to make 275 @the flywheel. your car should be fun regardless though.

I want to build a sleeper, and if I turbo'd my maxima i would go for the biggest i could find and the sound would be a dead giveaway. From eviews and people that i have talked to the whine from the s/c doesn't become to appearent until mid range rpms. I don't want to scare off ricers TOO quickly

speedthrill, Moroso is a 1/2 hour away from my house, the road i raced the Bimmer on was on the road that goes out there. It's an emty, long road that is PERFECT for street racing.

Hold the phone people...I own a maxima so you might see this as biased, but the mid 90's E36 M3's were not that fast at all....In fact, the automatic 4 door M3 did 0-60 in 6.9 seconds and the 1/4 in 15.2...about dead on with my car, and I drive the slowest of the 4th and 5th gen 3 liter maximas...the 4th gen 5-speed best time has been 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and the 1/4 at like 14.8 or something like that...so it is STILL possible that the car he raced was in fact an E36 M3...if it was the 2 door 5-speed though, you wouldn't have been able to keep up.

An average E36 M3 runs low 14s. If you go to bimmerforums.com, you'll see that a couple of people have run high to mid 13s totally stock with a US Spec E36 M3.

I wouldn't look at what some magazines say. They used to make an E36 "Luxury Version" of the M3, which ran high 6s to 60 and low 15s, but that's only because it was heavy. A regular auto should be able to do mid 14s with no problems.

Trust me, he would have known if it was an M3. He probably makes as much power at the crank as the M3 makes at the wheels. My brother used to own a 99 GLE.

It doesnt say in his post if it was a two or four, but if he thought it was a ///M at first, it was probably a two, becuase the four door ///M3s were pretty rare copmpared to the two doors, and not a ton of people know about the four door ///M3s, like the ///M545i. I'm thinking it was a rebadged 325ci or 328ci, but One Ball says it was a four door, then I'll agree, there is a chance it may have been the ///M3 sedan.

There is no way it was a 325i, he would have beat it silly, the 4th gen maximas are a second faster to 60 mph...For some reason though, the 328 is leaps and bounds faster than the 325, which makes no sense to me, so maybe it was a 328, I dunno.

street_racer_00
01-22-2005, 07:46 PM
Of course, if he owns a 4th gen GLE, with the automatic and all the heavy ass luxury stuff, then it's a different story...but I'm just speculating here, all we know is he owns a maxima of some sort, hell he might own a 3rd gen for all I know.

CassiesMan
01-22-2005, 07:47 PM
It may have been a ///M3, and the guy wasn't trying, or didn't know how to drive...to many complications. It may have also been an 325ci with some mods, a conforti injector and any intake can really improve the performance of the 2.5 I6.

Yeah it was probably the 328is, but you don't know, it could have been a modded 325.

My friend has a 4 door 1998 M3 and it goes to 60 in about 6 seconds, maybe a little slower, but nowhere near 6.9. My brother's GLE had a lot of torque for it's size, but it would have gotten owned by an M3 at highway speeds. It was fully loaded too.

True, back when my car was stock, an older 325i flat out whooped me from 70-130...I know he had some kind of work done, but I wasn't sure on the specifics...I guess there are just too many variables in this story to know exactly what happened.

Exactly what I'm saying. We need to get some input from One Ball to figure it out.

If it was a M3, even a 4door auto it would have pulled much harder the faster they got. I mean dont forget they raced to 120 and the M3 only gets better the faster it goes. So I still say it was a 325 or 328.

i have a stock 96 SE.

The Bimmer WAS a 2-door, i've never heard of a 4d M3 before. One thing i noticed from the pics someone posted is that the guys exhaust was different. It wasn't a double can, only a bigger single. I have know idea what mods he had, and i'm doubting it was a M because it would have about 50hp, RwD, and a better power-to-weight ratio than me.

I think it was a rebadged 325 or 328

CassiesMan

Rebadged with an exahust maybe...did it sound modded?

maybe chipped and the usual i/H/E :dunno:

One_Ball_Hung_Low

not really sure how a stock one would sound but the engine tone was more "speedy" than i would think usual. If it was modded it would be just i/h/e and exhaust, no real noticible goodies.

CassiesMan
01-23-2005, 03:00 PM
Yeah, I'm thinking it was a rebadged 325ci with some light mods. From my understanding, BMWs respond really well to light mods, I'm gonna find out for myself soon.
