Temperature Problem

I have a vr that was a 6 before i bought it the engine is out of a vn statesman i have a turbo 400 gearbox witha stage 2 shift kit and 396 diff gears. When driving around town the temp sits fine but when i drive it on the highway the temp goes to a i notch below the top if i come off the high the temp comes back down the car even did this when i had a turbo 700 gearbox in it i have also tried a seperate transmission cooler and have removed the air con raditor and fan to let a bit more air through any ideas i'am about to throw in the towel

My mate had a similar problem...
If you have the cash lying around, get a hoodscoop, and don't do it just for the look, literally cut it out so the scoop actually brings in air.
But ask some pro's before you do this, cause it might have a differant affect, I hope that helps, good luck mate.

The problem you have is that you don't have enough cooling capacity or airflow.
Options include:
- Bigger radiator core
- Checking that the fan thermocouple is working correcting to switch on the fan
- Installing some additional radiator fans
- Checking that you have the correct glycol/water coolant mixture and checking that you have bled all the air out of the system
Airflow:
This is odd. Most of the time, temperatures usually go down on the highway (reduced load, greater air running past the vehicle). The problem probably relates to airflow.
One option is to look at what restricts the airflow and this may actually involve either bigger holes at the front and greater exits for air downstream of the radiator. Counterintuitively, you may get some gains blanking off some of the grilles as the high pressure area behind the front may stop air flowing... you may have to experiment a bit.

your problem is nothing to do with airflow cause if it gets hot on the highway it will be a blocked radiator late model commodores and falcons are bad for internal blockage youll need to take your radiator to a radiator shop to have the tank removed and the radiator cleaned out ive seen commodore radiators with 95% internally blocked this should fix your problem
