Is 2 grand Canadian too low?

I called about another Camaro today, it's a 1986 Z-28, just got repainted white a couple months ago, brand new breaks, but the motor has like 230000km on it. The guy whose selling it thinks a new motor was put it before he bought so they odometer is obviously off, but he's not even sure. Apparently it's in really good shape, doesn't burn a drop of oil. The only things wrong it is that it has no stereo, theres a small leak in one of the tires, and in the t-tops there a little plastic piece missing or something like that I can't really remember what he said. It's a carbed 305...which is basically what I want, I know it's a boat anchor and all that, but it's still a hell of a lot faster than a 6 banger (I would guess) and the gas mileage on a 305 is probably a lot better than a 350, which works well for me because I'm just a student.

The ad originally said 2.4 grand, but the guy said he bought it for his son, but his son didn't want it because he wanted a project car, so now he just really wants to get rid of it because it's in his garage and he wants that space for another car hes working on. So without even haggling over the phone, he just came right out and said that if I have 2 grand, I can have it. Odds are I could even talk him down a bit anyway.

My philosophy here is that even if there are some problems with it, 2 grand Canadian is cheap, especially for a car with a brand new paint job and brand new brakes. I figure that even if it doesn't work out or there are some problems with it, I could easily turn around and sell it for just as much as I bought it for.

I don't get the question here, It sounds like a good deal for you and the guy must get rid of it. If you feel you can fix the problems easily enough why not just buy it?.

Good Luck

Is there anyway to tell if the engine has been switched from the original, and possibly, when it was switched?

To tell if the motor has been switched check the VIN# on the motor, it should match up with the VIN on the door and dash.

Test drove it, loved it, wanted to buy, Dad wanted to consult me first, someone else showed up to buy it, it's gone, end of story.

I'm really dissapointed right now. Car was gorgeous and was so much fun to drive.

Wasn't meant to be, Don't worry about it. I have had the same thing happen to me on like every first type of car I wanted. Next time you find something you like alot just work faster at taking it. Good Luck.
