I was really excited when this kit came in the mail today. However, that excitement was short lived. As it turns out, the body of the car received some pressure at the roof resulting in the body panels flaring out just a bit. Well... not really... alot. It was close to an eighth of an inch on either side that was pulled away from the chassis of the kit. I tried to use a blowdryer to coax it back into place but i only achieved to bow the A pillars. Needless to say I got a bit frustrated and decided to make it into a wide-body kit to *hide* the already flared out body (I still have to figure out a way to fix the bowed pillars as they do not sit well with the clear plasitc windows in place.)
Four to five hours later, Here I am. I only wish I had a better body to begin with.

Ouch, my EG6 came like that from HLJ and they sent me another body. Did you get it from HLJ?
I like the shape of the front bumper, looks like its going to be another sick body kit. What kind of filler are you using there?

Thanks guys. The putty is Eurosoft Glazing for autobodies. Its some pretty good stuff. Its a bit messy as you can see from the dabs that I lumped on but it sands quite well. But it works out in the end as most of the front bumper is styrene sheet.
Still deciding what I want to do with the rest of the bodykit. I don't really want to make it a widebody but if that's the only way to hide the bowing of the body, then that's the route I'll have to take... ahhh... the joys of online auctions... :icon16:

I'm still trying to figure out what to do to hide the body warp. On the other side, the front bumper is mostly done. A couple of body lines needed to be put in and the front end should be done. However, if I decide to go the widebody route, I'll end up modifying the bumper again.
This is probably the fastest I've done any custom work to a kit :icon16:
So any thoughts about how to fix the warped body other than heat from the hair dryer/hot water? Maybe rear flares would do just the trick in hiding the body panels :eek7: .

Thanks guys. I've finally been able to fix the warped panel that was bowing out. What I did was tape thetwo body panels together so that there was tension on it and then applied some auto lacquer thinner to the offending panel's pillars. This sofened up the plastic and when the thinner evaporated, the body panels held enough to correct the bowing. That was the only reason I started the sideskirts. If I had to do that now, the putty might crack from the body. Definite no no.
You guys are way ahead of me in terms of color. I haven't even decided on wheels just yet. I don't have very many to choose from. I have a set of the 19inch Aoshima TE's and CE wheels. They just look too big on the car. Almost monster truckish. A nice set of 18inchers would probably work out. I might even go the route of some wide 15inchers that I have bought from way back.
I'm thinking of maybe a nice black or a silverish blue (okay... I have this nail polish color... :loser: ) but really undecided until I figure out the wheel situation.
Hmm... the 911, to be honest, I don't know when I'll ever get that one. I typically have alot of models that I start but never finish... (and one of them is an NSX which I don't know when I'll get to) That Porsche really doesn't have much appeal to me right now thus the quick how to on the rear flares.
Thanks again for the interest!

Just a little bit of progress. I haven't done much to this kit as I'm waiting for a set of wheels to come in (Thanks Tonio!!!).
However, I have taken a bit of time to change the front just slightly. I think it makes quite a difference in the outward apperance of the front end as opposed to stock.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/39429silvia09.jpg
I had some downtime so I started on my 80's stash of model kits starting with this older Supra. I kept the bodykit in line with the 80's look (front bumper is kit supplied while the arches and sideskirts were scratchbuilt). The arches are small which lends itself well to the Fujimi 345 line of wheels.
I've seen a few pics on the internet with these older Supras but yet of all of them, I have yet to see one with a modified rear bumper. As it is, it looks a bit high due to the sideskirts but I don't know if I want to do anything to it, if at all for that matter. What do you guys think?
