Im planing to swap my 96hx with a d16y8 or b18b. I know neither engine is boost friendly buy what would be more suitable for turbo. I don't want to go more than 6psi. I don't want to be cheap but, thirfty in my choices. The turbo i was looking at is the T-25 Turbo, made by Garrett. Any sugesstions in this. It's going to be my 1st time having and driving a turbo'd car.

you wont be happy with it. i think you can do better than a t-25.

at least a 14b, but, i'd personally go with a t3/t04e family.
dont base your turbo on how much your going to boost. base it on your hp goal. remember, the turbo decides what psi will get you to what level of power. work from there.
actually, work on the swap first. any b series is a good start.

if i were u i would go check wit the company edelbrock...they came out not to long ago wit a turbo kit for D-series engines which can go from 5 to about 10 psi. it is specifically made for the d engine so their shouldnt be any problems with the engine after

most people would tell you not to use the D16 for turboing, but i would say go ahead. but if you want power you will need a lot more than 6 psi.
a smaller turbo would be better for that engine anyway.

why would you put a t3/t4 on a civic and only run 6psi that turbo is rated to run over 30psi it would be a waste to even do such a thing. I wouldn't go any bigger than a ported t28 and at most a 16g.

The ideal hp i would be looking for is about 160whp a little more or a little less. I don't want too much boost becasue this WILL be my daily and i don't want too many problems, and i don't drag or race. It looks like to me the more you boost the more things break. I know things will eventually break. I just want something to take to the track a couple times a month for my own personal times.

reasonable goals, stick with something like a t3 .42/.48 A/R and make sure your fuel management is electronic. start around 7 psi and work your way up towards 10 or stop where ever you're happy with the power

boost is boost. boosting@6psi will still wear your engine. ive never heard of anyone boosting without ever having any problems. it comes with the territory. seems like you know what you want. you just need to find what is is to buy and why to buy it. im assuming the 160whp will be on a sohc. just remember, when you boost, your going to want more later on. the boost bug bites hard.

im not sure but i dont know that the hx has a vtec engine already im not to terrible sure of that but in your best intrest it may be cheaper to go with a mini me swap and swap out your head for a d16y8 head then to turbo the engine it would be a lot cheaper that way than a complete swap
