Hi, I have a 96 Jetta III (2.0, manual) and 3 days ago i was driving and then the engine stalled, i thought that it coud be a loose harness or something like that, since i was in a bump when happened, but after 10 minutes o more I turned it on and worked.
the next day decided to check out all the harnesses and nothing was loose, i changed the rotor ,the distribuitor cap and the fuel filter, trying to discard some minor problems but it continued failing, the next thing i got was a used ignition coil and i switched it, the car worked fine and i drove it for 1.5hrs and nothing, the next day after 5 minutes it stalled again, my problem is that the coil works fine (i guess) but after a while the engine stops and when i crank the coil doesn't spark (none of them) so, i'm not sure if the problem is really the coil or the ecm or other thing, and since the autozone service here is really bad i kinda don't have any reliable shop to go check my car
basically:
- Engine starts,
- After some time (10-20 minutes) the egine stops and when i crank the coil doesn't spark
- Wait other 30 minutes and try again and works, so, my guess is that the coil coud be malfunctioning, but, i switch the coil for another original and works too, both coils works for some time and when the car stops, both don't spark
i really don't know what to do, any healp would be greatly appreciated
PS: i apologize for my messy english, but as you can notice it's not my primary language

*Update:
did what you recommended, but stills doing the same thing, now i'm sure the coil works properly because i tested it with my brother in law's jetta.
