XM radio thru changer input on CD?

Hi guys!

I spent the better part of today searching the internet for some info on this, but came up with nothing. I'm trying to find out if it's possible to hardwire a satellite receiver, to the CD changer input on a USA SPEC CD player, that I added to my wife's 1999 Honda CRV factory head unit. The CD player connects into the head unit with a 14pin plug. There is also an 8pin input on the CD player, meant for a changer. I also have a cable that I can attatch to the 8pin jack. This is what I'd connect the XM receiver to. However, I have no idea if it would even work without some kind of interface unit. Also, I can't find any pinout info on the CD player, so I can't identify the 8 wires. Just trying to get as much info as I can before I spend an entire day outside in the 20 degree weather with my toolbox and voltmeter, tearing apart her car and trying to trial-and-error it. Which XM reciver do you have?
What you are looking for is a blitz-safe connector, I have one in my TL-S. Its connects to the CD changer port in the back of the stock head unit. In my case I have an XM Commander and it also feeds power to it as well. I had to run 0 wires, only the antenna. It is not cheap though.

That was quick! Thanks. Unfortunately, I don't think that will work. The harnss for the 1999's uses the 14 pin plug on the back of the radio. I'm using that for the CD player. The plug I'd need to use is from the CD player, and is an 8pin plug. They have those, but not for the 1999's. Oh, I haven't purchased a sat receiver yet.

So you have a CD player and a radio both seperate in the dash?
How about a CD changer, do you have one?

I am a little lost on what you are saying, I am not real familiar with the accords.

The interface for the 1999's connects via the same 14pin plug. The CD player has an 8pin plug intended for an additional changer. They do have an 8pin interface, but it's for the wrong year(92-98). I sent them an email asking if I could use the 8pin interface with my setup.

Hopefully they will tell you that it will work. If you can get the setup for the Commander, it is so easy to install when you use that harness. Good luck. :bigthumb:

other suggestion i would do, is probe for the signal wires, and setup a switch so you can switch between the two sources.. there are also wire sets for the setup you want to do..

Thanks so much for the great suggestions. Hopefully one of them will work. I still may try to figure the pinout so I can use the cable I already have, rather than spend more money on a new one. Thanks again!

Just thought I'd follow up. I got an email from Blitzsafe saying the way I wanted to setup my system would not work with their interface. I also sent an email to Auto Toys, but haven't heard back yet. In the meantime, I guess I'll try to figure the pinout.

Another update. Auto Toys said they didn't know if their's would work either, but that I could try it. Oh, and all sales are final. Great! Thanks! If I get around to the pinout, I'll make sure to post it here.

tell me again which XM reciever do you have?

The wife just bought a SkyFi2. Does it really matter? Shouldn't the audio output be the same, regardless of the reciever?
