I'm curious whether or not replacing an alternator on a 92' Grand Am would be hard or easy? Is the alternator on top or bottom of the engine and would it be a few hour job or a few day job? Thanks in advance!

On the 91 the alternator is on the top and takes about 15 minutes to change. Cant swear to the 92 but I would not think it changed that much. A good manual can show you the way.

Being a 92 if it is a V6 (3300)then it is on the top, but the mount bolt closest to the front of the car sometimes has clearence probs with the coolant jug. If you dont mind and have the time, dissconnect the top overflow line and unbolt the resovoir and move it aside a bit so you can get the bolt and have alittle more room.

The 92 should be the same as the 93 (3300) and the alternator is not hard to do. Disconnect your positive lead on the battery. Release the tensioner and move the belt out of the way. You cannot completely remove the belt as the 3300 needs the motor mount removed to get the belt off. On my 93 the alternator comes off very easily and the reservoir bottle has not been a problem.
