Considering changing tire size

I need new tires to replace the OEM Bridgesone Potenza 195/55 VR15 on my 2001 Mazda Protege LX 2.0. I am not willing to pay for the same tires. Besides they were not that good in the wet (especially the snow). For a better selection of tires I am planning to go to 60 series V or H rated tire but maintaining the same width. I might even consider a touring tire like the Bridgestone Turanza SL-H. I want performance but also good wet traction, decent snow traction, and a reasonably quiet ride. I would be interested in opinions or know if anyone else has done this.

a 195/60/15 will make your speedometer read 3.3% too slow. Instead I would go with a 205/55/15 which only will make the speedo read 1.8% too slow. In that size I'd consider the Yokohama Avid V4 and Pirelli P6000
