Leaking Coolant

My 98 Blazer is leaking coolant at the intake manifold. It runs to back of the motor and down the bell housing then onto the ground.
Is this a difficult fix or should I let the mechanic have a go at it for 300 bucks? That was the price he quoted me parts and labor.

You sure it isn't just leaking from the water pump?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was from the intake manifold on that truck, I have the same year and it was leaking. Yes, it is a bit of a "female dog" to fix, and 300 dollars doesn't sound too bad at all. The problem with those gaskets is that they were made out of a very crappy plastic, and can not withstand the heat, therefore they crack pretty easily.

I am sure it is not the water pump, I replaced that about four months ago. You can see were the coolant is running between the head and the intake. Then it travels to the back of the motor and then down the side of the tranny(drivers side). At first, I thought it might be a head gasket leak but after further investagation I could see it was leaking from the intake manifold.
I even cleaned the area real good and after a couple of days it was wet with coolant. It is a small leak but I know it will get bigger.

Yea, for 300 , that seems to be quite a cheap quote on that job.

Thanks BlazerLT and SComp23 for the help, I really appreciate it..
I have an appointment for this coming Wednesday to have the leak fixed. I was contemplating doing it myself but man there is alot stuff to remove to get at the manifold. I usually try to do things myself but I have never done intake gaskets on a newer vechicle.

For 300 dollars, I would definately pay to get it done. Me and a buddy of mine did mine and it was no fun at all. The quote for me to have mine done was I believe around 550, so 300 is a deal for sure. Good luck.
