I too have a 95 contour with the blinking 51 airbag light. What does the code mean? Mine started doing this shortly after I installed a remote starter (it's cold in Cleveland).
I've had the proverbial love-hate relationship with this car since I bought it in 1998. I've always loved the V6 and the tight handling.
Here's a list of the things I hate about this car:
1) doors freeze shut in cold weather
2) if you do get the door open, the lock/latch mechanism is still frozen, and I can't get the door to latch closed
3) remote trunk release lever has never worked right
4) trunk latch mechanism doesn't work at all in sub freezing temps - get all your stuff out in October!
5) fill-er-up at the gas pump results in a trickle of gas from beneath the car for the first 60 miles or so - no smoking please...
6) gas hatch doesn't always release using the lever by the driver's seat
7) I think there's a leak in the coolant recovery tank right where the "low coolant" sensor is. The low coolant light pretty much stays on even though a visual inspection shows plenty in the tank. If I fill the tank to the rim, the light turns off for a few days, then back on. Further visual inspections shows - you guessed it - the coolant level is stable at about 40% in the tank.
8) AC has leaked for the last five years. Finally gave up two years ago and now I refuse to have it refilled.
I own two vehicles, and I despise making two payments at a time, so I've always tried to stagger car purchases and make each vehicle last 10 years (unless I can pay off early). That means this bomb is due to be replaced in 2008. It only has 79K miles, but I don't think it's going to make it...

i have had all of those problems with my 1995 contour, except the coolant leak.
the good thing about this car is no car payment.
