Quick question:

When I start up the durango in the monring on really cold days, I hear a squeaking sound from the engine compartment. I just had the belt replaced and even after that I could hear the squeaking sound. I just went out to start it up again and it was squeaking. I first thought it might be whenI have the defroster on, but not so. My friend thinks that some belt lube wold work or maybe something I can spray on the pullkeys? The guy who replaced the serpitine belt that thought there might be some road grime in one of the pulleys? This is driving me nuts. any thoughts?

Thanks.

PS. I have a 2001 SLT 4x4 4.7L with 68600 miles.

If the squeaking goes away after the car warms up I'd say it might be the cooling fan/clutch assy. making the noise. If the noise continues after it warms up then I would take a look at the belt tensioner. A water pump on it's way out can also make noise but in many cases will also weep coolant from a hole on the bottom side of the pump. With the engine off, I would check the fan assy., water pump pulley and belt tensioner for any signs of excessive side to side play that might indicate a bearing problem. Find this and you've most likely located the source of your noise. Your car's mileage makes any of these sources a good bet in my opinion.
Good luck.

I had the same problem. Quick check. (With you engine turned off) LOL, reach in and grab your fan. If it moves, chances are it's youe water pump. I had the same problem with mine about a month ago. The antifreeze didn't begin to weep until right before the pump went out. Good luck. J
