BMW's in the snow?

What's shaking? A forum newbie here.

I am looking at trading my beast of a truck - Nissan Titan - for a E46. I have done my homework on these fantastic cars. I even owned an '89 325ix (e30?) with a Dinan chip, AC Schnitzer body kit, ATS wheels, etc; so I know what these cars are capable of...

My question is this: what are BMW's (3 series) like in the snow. I know that some of the newer ones come with a DSC system. I also realize that they are rear wheel drive (minus the SAV's and the xi's). Any propeller heads out there run studs on there car, and how has that been? I ask because in about six months, I will be spending some time in Montana during the ever-so-cold winter.

The general consensus about cars driving in snow is RWD<FWD<AWD. So your average rwd 3-series isn't going to be a very good snow car. A 325xi or 330xi on the other hand are supposed to be pretty decent in the snow.

It is possible to drive a RWD in the snow, I just don't suggest doing it very fast, you don't want to screw up a E46 half a year after getting it...

Isn't Montana 6 months from now in the middle of summer, and therefore not nearly as cold as it is now?

I should have been more specific. At the end of the next 6 months I will be back in MT through some winter months. My apologies.

Also, I was curious as to how BMW's do with studs, or stud-less snow tires?
