"I thought you all might enjoy a racing video.

Background: A joke started about a week ago from a comment made on a local board by someone that DSM's were 'king of the streets' because with how cold the weather is nothing can beat them. Apparently this didn't go down too well with a couple local racers who actually want to be the king of the streets.

I could have cared less about king of anything, but somehow I got dragged into the whole ordeal because I have a pretty quick street car. There were a couple people who were saying I would race anything they could put up... without me even knowing about it. I didn't see most of this footage until now. I thought it was just a simple race, but apparently it was so much more to other people.

I got lined up in a $100 race against a 700+ HP Supra. I don't race for money, so the bet was between a local dsm supporter and a guy who calls himself "CobramanofUtah". I guess from hearing what other people have told me, he was pretty pissed about dsm's thinking they were in any way better than Ford/Supra's... I dunno.

I was running street tires and 91 octane gas. The supra is on race fuel and slicks. I believe he is running a T88H. Whatever it is, it sounds like a jet instead of a car. On the way to the race I did a practice run and slipped off a new alternator/waterpump belt and you can see the comments when they thought I wasn't going to show up.

"This time I came out on race fuel, open exhaust, and my headlight out. It was much warmer this time and just about dusk. Just some fun racing, thought I'd share. More of just racing this time. Not because I give a shit what charcoal sausage thinks, but because there was alot less shitttalking going on this time around.

First pass was a clean run, second pass I had a hard time with 2nd gear. I feel really bad because I told those guys that spot was recently repaved, so it was a little rocky for my taste, but the supra ended up getting a rock to the windshield which put a nice crack in it. Later that night we found his intake filter also broke a chunk of plastic/rubber off it that went through his T51R-Kai, taking off a couple of the fins...

Bad night for the supra... but a good sport none the less."

Do you guys think the supra could have taken him from a roll? God man that video makes me wanna go AWD and sell my stupid FWD....It just looks like it was a piece of cake to get traction on the ground for the dsm awd...

I do have a 80,000 BTU kerosene heater. But because the ceilings in my garage are so high (~12 feet), and its big enough for 2 UPS trucks, it takes a lot of fuel to heat the place. The top 6 feet gets warmed up, while the bottom 6 feet gets all the fumes :icon16: Klene-heat works, but its expensive. I hate DSMs, epsecially in the winter.

Thats what i thought also, but hey i can do an awd swap :D if i had the money, lol But hey i kinda like my unexpected burnouts shows the power :thumbsup: . Maybe ill buy jakes AWD spyder when he gets bored with it. lol Man that talon was awesome.

ya that supra got some whorid launches... seemed like he was REALY slow in the beginning and well u couldent see him in the end... god that was a nice TSi

Anyone have a mod list for that talon? In the Tuners thread it said it was a low 11 second car (just like Kevin's ;)).

I'd be interested to see what turbo, fmic, and tuning setup the dude is running though....

You made yourself sound just like that guy. Saying, "our cars are just so badass". Obviously a guy is going to like his "brand" of car over another brand. That guy should just feel that much better that he beat him. Everyone can be cocky at one time or another. Thats life.

After watching that video, I am glad I held out 3-4 months trying to find a 2G TSI AWD.

There was a 533 hp scion at the detroit auto show. It had a HKS GT3240 turbo.. that thing is massive

Interesting...seems like you could see much bigger results for less. This is the only HKS turbo kit for a Tsi I could find:

That doesn't mean he isn't using a different manifold and a bigger turbo...besides, I can't see the turbo on that Talon being internally gated :rolleyes:

haha I'm suprised he managed to get traction. I'd say he launched about as good as you can in a 750rwhp supra. The thing DID sound like a jet.

Its the same in every run, so its not going to be a mis-shift. Its the rev limiter. On large turbos the rev limiter will change the sound of the turbo, almost turning it on and off. The jet engine whine on my turbo will vary in time with the stutterbox. The BOV could be fluttering as well adding to the effect in his case. Hard to say when its not there in person. :) And I'm not used to hearing launches outside the car...
